Frightening experience!..

.. Its a beautiful day here in CT so I took Amy outside to walk around and get some fresh air. I put her in the grass and I sat on my front stoop and watched her walk about,picking at dandilions and chewing twigs and pebbles,munching on a grub or two .

She started to climb a small shrub that was less than two feet from where I was sitting. All of a sudden,out of the blue,came a ROBIN! It landed in the shrub and started to attack poor Amy! My poor girl didn't know what the heck was happening,she was screeching madly and waving her arms frantically! I was stunned for about 2 seconds,and I got up and shoo'd that robin off. I got Amy out from the shrub and inspected her very closely for any wounds. Thank God she was ok,just scared to death. She climbed my shirt and snuggled under my chin for comfort. She has never done that before. I reassured her that she was ok and put her on the grass while I investigated why that robin was in attack mode.

Well come to find out,about a foot higher than where Amy was,is a NEST! and in that nest are 4 light blue eggs. No wonder that robin was in attack mode,just protecting her home and kids-to-be

It looks like I wont be letting Amy walk around in the front yard for sometime now..Scared both of us silly

Wow, what an experience for poor Amy! Thank goodness Amy is okay. I guess they peck? At least they don't bite like a parrot! I figured it had to be because of a nest. Look in the nest in a couple or few weeks!

Yup, look in that nest in a couple of weeks. Oh, by the way, likely a good idea to wear a hard hat! Normally, that Robin would have cut a wide path around Amy, but with a nest!

We have several Red Tail Hawk families that work across our area. So, very limited outdoor time at our house. Front yard is controlled by Robin family one, side yard by Robin family two and the back yard is family number three. Mixed in between is a family of Cardinals. Add the varying size of a band of Turkeys that roam in from the North before turning around and heading back North once a week or so. Our DYH Amazon is busy moving from vantage point to vantage point to view the action! Our guy gets tired keeping an eye on all of them and letting them know who is really in charge!

It is heart-warming when an Amazon comes looking for comfort and you're the source! Nice to know that you're still Dad! Happy early Father's Day!

Last year,in the exact same shrub,I found a robin nest.. I have wild bird food feeders just a few feet from that exact same shrub,and one day as I was doing weeding on the other side of the sidewalk I could hear "peep..peep..peep" and sure 'nuff, there were 4 fledglings in that nest. Within a week or two,they were gone. I'm wondering if it was the same pair of robins nesting in the same spot. I removed the old nest in fall time,and gave it to Jonesy to see if he'd sit in it lol.

The soon as you said a Robin attacked, my first thought was "nest" sure enough! lol, glad sHe was ok.

Awwe poor Amy and she was enjoying nibbling on her dandelions as she went...bet that Robin got a shock too...hope Amy is none the worse for her Adventure

My thought exactly! Imagine the Robin wondering what sort of bird is Amy!

Oh! A big scary adventure. Lol, I'm glad it didn't have other consequences. And a nice cuddle in the end. You can't make this stuff up. We had our winter drapes open for the first time since we got Salty, and I put him on the back of the couch to look out the window at the big wide world. The little chicken utzed to the end of the couch and peeked out and was shivering . He is a little parrot in a very big world.
How did you desensitized Amy to the outside?

Scary but glad Amy wasn't hurt,did you have her in a harness?

No,no harness..she walks about freely. Her arms are always clipped and she has never even tried to fly..don't think she knows how She has been spooked a few times and all she does is flap wildly while running like the dickens..kind of comical..

She has been going outside since she was a pup..car rides..tractor-trailer rides..started out very young.And she likes outside. I can have her on my shoulder,looking out the front door and she'll ask me.. "outside?...in the car??> How can I say no to her? lol
