..ok now, after I post this,y'all prolly have an idea on how young I am lol..

Anyone remember <besides ME!> the tv commercial for...."grape nuts" I think it was? Where the announcer says.." Ever eat a pine cone? most parts are edible?" The guys name was Yule Gibbons, a naturalist.

Anyway, my question being this..can our fids eat 'em too? I was at work tonight, and all along the property line we have numerous pine trees, and they are all molting ,for the lack of the proper terminology :54: ;).. and new cones are growing.
So I picked up a half of plastic grocery bag full. The cones are about 3.25 inches high with a diameter of about 2 inches. They look like miniature Christmas trees themselves :p I know the trees have not been sprayed with any pesticides, and I plan on thoroughly washing 'em anyway. I was just wondering if they'd be safe for Amy to nibble/chew on,and use for toys?

We found pinecones on a list of destructible toys. The book we read said to disinfect or bake to sterilize. We didn't and just gave Buzz a clean washed one. He didn't like it but he's not really into foot toys. We were going to try and hang some.

Um I thought the commercial you are referring to was talking about "cat tails" not pine cones.
It was a long time ago so my memory could be wrong.

I had forgotten about pine cones. Years ago, we had a loving LCA, still miss her. My dear wife had gotten a dozen huge pine cones for Christmas decorations. She had set them in the log holder next to the fireplace (rarely used). A week later everyone of them was gone! It seems that our LCA had pulled everyone of them out of the log holder and hide them all around the first floor. We were still finding pine cones in July. Neat memory!

She never eat them, only moved them around from time to time. A couple of them was nearly her size. Fun to watch, once we figured-out what was going on! It became part of our yearly Christmas Joy - find the pine cones.
