welcome to cage cleaning day! Or, as Charlie likes to call it, lets make mom yell "no!" all day. Today is the deep cleaning day, unlike the usual change papers and wipe up our messes everyday cleaning. Cages, free stands, under cage mats, all toys, perches, etc. gets pressure washed, stuck into the dishwasher, scrubbed and dried in the sun (it's raining today :( of course) This operation happens every 3-4 months. The bird area (or you could say the whole house, except the bedroom) gets deep cleaned, aired out and scrubbed by a madwoman ( that would be me) bent on destroying all of Charlie's "art" and "toys". Walls are scrubbed from those hard-to-reach far flung food marks that mom can't see behind the cages and toys. All of the toys are taken away, leaving Charlie nothing to play with except all of mom's stuff. Cages are taken away and Charlie must suffer from being forced to hang out on his favorite free stand until the cage is done. And then the madwoman takes away his favorite free stand! Of all the ill conceived ideas! Charlie's secret stash of wood splinters and toy confetti is discovered AND disposed of much to his dismay. Of course the only way to take all this is by retaliating by getting in the way and going to "no-no" places (like the never used fireplace) "What do you mean that picture above the mantel doesn't need beak marks?" "Are these things breakable if I fling them off here?" "Well can I waddle my trouble-making self into the kitchen and play in the cabinet?" "OOH, I haven't chewed on this wall in a while!" "If you didn't want me to play with it, why did you take my toys?" But at the end of the day mom gives him back all his stuff and we have a lovely cuddle.

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
When it comes time to clean Amy's "mansion"..I wheel it outside. There is and older "playpen" out there, that I just don't have enough room for it in my living room,so she sits up on it where I have a couple toys hanging from it.
She enjoys outside time anyway, and leaves me to use a portable steam cleaner on her stuff.
In the winter, when obviously I cant wheel it outside,I use the steam cleaner again, and she sits on her play top, just watching.

Her house is located in the corner, next to a window, and the front side wall of the house. On the back wall I HAD a picture in frame hanging, and one day I noticed she was spending a lot of time,at the back corner of her play top and went to see why..you guessed it  There isn't much left to one side of the picture frame.

Yup, we have a like event at our home. One of my favorite Amazon statements is: Amazon's Have More Fun! And, somethings we don't know how much until we move something to find the 'storage location.'

Thanks for the memories, we are coming-up on our major clearing also!

Today was our cage cleaning day as well! I love your description of Charlie. Our surprise of the day was a pile of torn out carpet fibers under Buzz's favorite chair. His cage is in a spot where we have to move a chair to roll it out for cleaning. Surprise surprise! I think he's lost his under chair privileges. I also usually remove a few chewed toys and replace with new when I clean and Buzz gets that "what have you done" look when he goes back.

One of Charlie's stashes of toys that I found today is all of the cats balls. I wondered where they have all been disappearing to, I even bought more for them! I guess Charlie thinks they are eggs and he's been hiding them in the fireplace we never use. I have had a piece of cardboard in front of the fireplace and Charlie has been chewing it to bits every chance he gets so he can nest in there (we are in the midst of a difficult breeding season) Of course the cats were happy to recover their balls and Charlie is furious that I have dismantled his nest.;)
