Yesterday was Saltys first time for so many things. We put him in his travel cage and he came with me to a pirate festival that we perform, at here on Long Island. His place was on the side of the stage, partially over covered from the the sun. He was so good, taking in the crowds of people, the applause, the sounds of cannon fire (real cannon) and the music of other bands. It was funny that he only sang and did his laughing and amazon chatter when our band, The Brigands, were performing. The other bands... quiet as a grave. I took him out of his cage into our van during our breaks, to let him stretch his legs and wings, and to get some well deserved treats. During some of the other breaks we let the little kids come up and say hello to him and give his some veggie treats. And sometimes they got a "Hiiiii".
A long day for a little parrot, in the big wide world. I left with him after the festival closed and the after fest party started, and NOBODY party's like a bunch of pirate re-enactors who are camping overnite. It was getting dark, and Salty started contact calling me, first time all day, so I knew it was time to go home. Salty was so cool with the crowds, and the noise and sound, it kinda made me proud, like a typical parront would be. My goal is by next year when this festival rolls around again, is to have Salty harness trained. I just know that because he was so mellow, especially with so many small children in close proximity, that he will be the parrot to introduce people to birds as pets.
