Sammy got a new house mate

Hi all,
Its been a while since i have been here. We, me and Sammy, have went through some changes in the past year. We moved whichwas a big change. He handled it like actrue champ. Other than having to house train again he was good to go. He is a bigger mommas boy though. He won't allow my son, which we moved in with , to get to close to me. He aggressively backs him away. We are working on that issue.
But to the matter at hand , we were house sitting a cockatoo which will now be a permanent part of out household. Buddy, The Too, is a loving bird. He is getting better to stepping up I have him the space and time to adjust to everything before i started pushing the issue of him doing what i want him to do.
Him and Sammy actually try to talk back and forth with each other . Sammy is a better talker right now but I'm sure that may change some. Buddy watches him and tried to copy. I have not let them near each other close enough to touch. Not that brave. And I'm not risking a chance for battkes. But the problem is buddy seems to think Sammy could be a " partner" we will call it .lol.
Of course all I know about the sex of these guys is what I was told from last owners. With nothing in writing to validate this i can't say for sure.
Is that normal ? Different breeds ? Possible that the hormones just kick in toba point that they don't care ? Just curious.

Sammy does not like anyone touching me. But he has no problem with buddy. He willset on my shoulder while I scratch buddy and Sammy is talking to him the whole time.blows my mind. He is not that way with people. ..

Also I will ask on the Too board as well . but have any of you ever had a bird with their data and nights confused. I swear buddy does. He's content in his cage trying to sleep during the day. But bed time for me is his morning. Then he reaches for me to pick him up. Won't during day. Heswide open and wound for sound through at bedtime.
Can u switch that back around somehow ?

Thanks

Sure thing..Amy is definitely a "he" <was dna'd not long ago> and Jonesy, the Goffins < I assumed he was a he,never did find out> were best of pals. Even now,Amy and my new 'tiel BB are close buddys. Its just like us humans, depends on their personality.

Re: Sammy got a new house mate

There is no way to know whether the big guys will get along or it will turn into a blood bath on the worst side. Just be very careful. To be honest, until you get a full year into this arrangement, it would not be wise to place body parts between them. Both have been 'up North' long enough (or forever) to be on the same year schedule, so unless something lights either or both of them up. It shouldn't be until New Years before you really know.

Sounds like your Too belonged to a Night Owl and you will need to work too slowly change his schedule. Be very careful in this clock changing that you do not seriously screw his sleep schedule. Best way, but not the easy one, is to simply start shaving and adding to his schedule. Shave wake-up back from noon to 11:00 and Bed time from mid-night to eleven. An hour shift every other week would be the safest.

At some point, some one will push the Pecking Order thing and you need to watch for that as they test each other. It is very possible that you got an 'Amy' (see above Post) in one or both and they will get along famously! Play it safe and pray for the best.

You really need to take the Too in for an Avian Vet visit. As you stated, you really have nothing on this guy and it would be very wise to complete a 'Well Parrot' Vet Check. Since this would normally include a full spectrum blood test, get a DNA Sex test at the same time.
