:green: Need advice. I have a male bf amazon 19 mths old. I also have a male macaw the same age. We have had the parrots for 13 mths now. All of a sudden the amazon has become aggressive to my husband the macaw and myself some times. He dive bombs and bites us. We normally let them out of there cages after breakfast in the morning with us, and they go back in there cages in the afternoon to eat a sleep, but we can not let the amazon out as he bites. Is he going through a stage. I am not shore what is the right thing to do with him. Should i leave him in the cage. Will he get past this stage. I live in Australia it is june and winter here. He was always on my shoulder as he was more with me. He did play with both of us and the macaw. PLEASE HELP IS NEEDED.
THANK YOU. CHAZ

Hi Chaz,

So very sorry that your Thread had not been addressed sooner! Early weekend maybe.

First, please take the time to read the first Thread of the Amazon Forum, highlighted in light blue that addresses Amazon Body Language. My recommendation would be when your Amazon is in his cage, place a chair along side and read the Thread aloud. Two reasons, Amazon's love to be read too and after the third of fourth reading you will begin to note communications that your Amazon has been providing and you possibly missing.

Always start from the position that: It is never the fault of the Amazon and always the fault of the Human. This will allow you to more quickly find the cause and correct it more quickly.

Thank-you, for providing your general location. It is just so helpful when attempting to understand and provide support. With an Adult Amazon commonly around five years of age (some sooner) a Hormonal Response this time of year for you would be very possible. At about two years of age, this could be considered a little early, but not totally impossible.

Lets look at who was the Amazon's best friend prior to this change. Amazon's develop strong bonds to a single Human / Parrot and may see your Husband and the MAC as interfering with his best friend (guessing that may have been you).

You state that your Amazon is a Male. Has he been DNA verified as a Male?

Although, I believe that this is likely an interaction issue. Which can be better understood by learning Amazon Body Language (see above). I would also recommend that you check a couple of possible Hormonal Drivers too, although I am not comfortable that it is a cause of what you are dealing with, they will at least provide some basic ideas should such occur in the future. (a.) Assure that your Amazon is getting up to twelve hours of sleep. (b.) avoid body contact with mid to back of your Amazon. (c.) avoid warm mushy foods. There are others, but this will at least provide a few items.

Once again, I am thinking that you likely are dealing with an interaction issue. So, please read the first Thread to your Amazon as many times as is needed for both you and your Husband to understand what you are seeing. Note: Wise people re-read this Thread a couple of times each year as a refresher!

Hi Chellner, Sailboat has given you wonderful advice so I wont add to it except to say that by reading the link that Sailboat mentions you will be nine tenths of the way towards develloping a new more peaceful relationship with your Amazon.

I wish I had advice for you :02: but my blue front of 27 years is a one of a kind amazon...the mold broke after she < A HE really...DNA'd in april> was born. Amy loves everyone and everything. She is best pals with my baby cockatiel..she was best pals with Jonesy..she loves people.
Sure she has her moments..I attribute it to hormones, but like Sail boat suggested..READ about body lingo!
