Hey All,

Just noticed over the last few days that Monty seems to be molting a bit harder, and he's been pretty crabby, and is sleeping more than normal. Appetite (of course) is still good. His poor noggin' is full of sheathed feathers, and he's finally started dropping his trimmed flight feathers.

Is this typical for a molt? Of note, he is hitting his first birthday in three weeks. Any ideas how we can ease his suffering a bit? We've already moved him to a shower every other day.

We have been enjoying 'snow' feathers and more this June and it looks like July's early heat here in Michigan will have us wondering if our Amazon just blew-up!

The combination of the health of your Parrot, time of year, and just how hot (or cold) it is, plus for you, the joy of a one year old - Yup its molting season here in the Great White North!

If life is really a bit boring or you are a True Amazon Snob; you can collect the body, wing and tail feathers and create your own feather blanket display. Not all of that was humor! By collecting flight feathers, you can quickly determine their location and time line your Parrots progress in working though a complete molt. The process is very educational, since you will be able to quickly see the very specific differences in each feather, its location and use.

Have fun! Its kind of like Christmas in July; Snow - but not the cold!

Sorry, got carried away with the Molt. Yes, increase the number of showers and mistings. Also, when the feathers come it, learn to help with removing the cover, but only when it is very hard and crumbly! Grumpy is just part of Molting! Lots of Love and Understanding, also helps!
