So "we";) were at Lowes today and they had their Halloween decorations out near the hardware I were looking at. Now Kiwi is really very chill no matter where we go and has never reacted to a store display before. In fact, he ignored all the other halloween display items including quite a few very large/scary ones, but when he saw this "life sized" ghost "threatening us" (light gauzy material moving around as we walked by) he took immediate action to defend his mommy! We're talking crouched down, tail flared, eyes pinned amazon kill mode. He then began running through every little noise he makes (not screeching, but certainly telling that ghost what he thought of it!). Had he not been in his carrier, I think I would be the proud new owner of that ghost (you bite it you buy it right?) because it would have died a second time at the beak and talons of a very protective amazon:eek:. He emitted a very loud "weeeet" as we walked away too, attracting the attention of several other shoppers:08: Always an adventure with the green guy in tow:D

Ha ha. What a great story! Wish there was a video to go with that. Bet you were proud of him that he would step up and attempt to protect you. Amazons are so brave and courageous.

Funny you say that! I've noticed when we go out with the pak o bird, nobody notices the bird in the bag. They only see the dog. Only once has anyone noticed the big green bird in the back pack.

I saw a like display at the other Big Box Store and was thinking of the reaction our Amazon would have had. A Second Death and that one by Amazon was right-on! Go Kiwi!

Was thinking of placing one of those 'This Home Protected By', signs near the entry doors of our home and placing one of those 'Fully Crazed' Amazon photos on it.

Our home is the same: Go ahead Fool, and Make that Amazon's Day, Just Try Messing with Mama! Yup, our Amazon is a big Mama's boy also.

Kiwi's name should have been 'Spike' !

Chris, funny, Salty gets a fair amount of attention in his PoB, as he jabbers away. Sometimes he will put his eye up real close to the front screen or side and then theres unmistakably a bird in there.

Oh April, too funny! I bet it was the cloth blowing like that that brought him to protect mode. We hung up shower curtains in our little bird room, and everyone was fine with it. There are 3 curtains covering a wall, the two on the sides are just trees, and the one in the middle is a giant owl. They never paid any attention to any of them until the air purifier got turned toward them and made the owl one wave a bit and man, they all went crazy. As soon as I turned the purifier, everything went back to normal.

Good think he was in his carrier or I bet you're right and you would have had new slightly chewed Halloween decor at your house this year.

Hahaha, April! Thank you for sharing Kiwi's ghostly encounter! Too funny! You must be very proud of your green personal security guard.

LOL...that has to be funny...seeing a colorful birdie inside a "back pack" :p I bet a lot of people who are not familiar on birds or how we "bring them with us"...would thing.." what the....???" :D

I remember when Amy and I went to visit Al < wrench> and his family,he showed me Saltys' pak o bird...quite an ingenious thing. I tried to visualize Amy in one..looking out the window,as we walked on lol.

People always notice Kiwi in his backpack. First I get a weird stare then a "Oh my god theres a bird in there!" usually followed by "is it a parrot?" (no, it's just a beefy rainbow pigeon:rolleyes:). And when they come over to talk to him, he really hams it up for them because he likes the attention:p. I've had a few people actually ask to take a picture of him in his backpack (as long as it doesn't show my face, I'm fine with it). I guess people really don't expect to see parrots out and about. From the perspective of someone outside the avian community, they are pretty rare and exotic. Especially since most pet stores no longer sell the big ones, they seem even more excited to see a larger bird because a lot of people don't ever see them outside of zoos. Seeing one out running errands or at a park, in a backpack must be an unusual sight for a non-bird person:D.
