..anybodies 'zon,or birdie, doesn't really mater, eat chicken meat? I don't mean just a nibble or two that may have been left on a chicken gam bone either?

I got some Chinese food tonight,Moo Goo Gia Pan. has chicken meat, rice, peas in the pods, water cress and shrooms and carrots.

I share with the fids (BB still runs away from things I offer him with my fingers) and I put some of this stuff in Amys, nummy bowl.
I inadvertently put in a good size piece of chicken and walked away.
She went right to the bowl and started munching away, and came up with the chicken.
I bet she had a good 10 or so bites before dropping it back in her bowl to get a pea pod,and it looked like she was enjoying it too. :25:

Sure, many of us do :). Not in heaping helpings but Parker does get nibbles every now and then. According to my avian vet, many parrots do indulge in a bit of insectivory, on rare-ish occasions. So a bit of complete protein is good for them.

Levy that against the fact that added protein is best for more active birds. All in moderation.

Yeah, I've fed all of the birds I've owned over the years chicken at one time or another. In small bits, but I've given them some. Makes for some amusing cannibalism jokes, but it's less gross than it seems. ;)

I get the best cannibalism jokes, considering my Ekkie is pretty much named the Pretty Chicken. I say pretty much because when I brought her home, I intended on naming her Aria, but she doesn't even know who that is. She knows who Chicken is though. I do give her a bite of chicken every now and then, although she really loves fish.

Remembering that Parrots as most Birds eat what they come across. So bugs all the way to small manuals are so to say; on the table!

As with everything, and as stated above, it all comes down to volume and how often. It seems that Amy got his fill and moved on to other choices. IMHO, that's a clear sign of a Parrot that has a wide selection of food types available to him, and thus, they self-select. Adding to this, as stated above, Fish have a place in that large and well balanced diet.

Our YWA would truly love chicken leg bones. I found myself loosing far to many wars as to who's leg bone was on my plate. His goal was to break it open and take the rich bone mareo (sp).

My critters get meat fairly regular... including fish and enjoy it a lot. Scrambled eggs also a favorite. Note that parrots are omnivores and in the wild actually go on "nest raids".. killing and eating young of other birds as well as their eggs. Also its my experience over doing with the meats in their diets can give health issues.. including high chloresterol (sp) just like us humans. Moderation is the key here as with anything. Just make sure the meats are lean and well cooked and its good for your birdie.

Salty loves chicken bones, so when we get KFC, he gets the thigh bones - actual leg bones are too big for him - almost comical to watch him try those. Thigh bones - just right. But we gotta watch because when he is done and throws them away ( onto the floor) our dog Tinker is right there under his boing to catch it, and we all know chicken bones are a big NONO for doggies.

Nigel nibbles on chicken, he has a picky palate when it comes to meaty stuff! He sniffs, pushes it around, nibbles like it's a favour to me that he's trying it.

Chicken bones? Why no, those are evil monsters that will create havoc if approached (according to Nigel).

It's a grey's world.

LOL I love all the comments here :p Nigel doesn't like chicken bones eh? Smokey would literally rip the dang thing from my fingers!
And when Amy is outside, walking in the grass, I don't know how many times I've seen her munch on a grub or two.

Ya Al..I can see poor Salty wrestlin' with a chicken leg bone..lol..almost as big as he is.

Never tried fish..I'm not a fan of it myself, unless it is a ten minute old piece of Large Mouthed Bass...or Rainbow Trout

Amy will even nibble on a steak bone,or the hamburg that is mixed in with Sheppards Pie..she likes the corn and smashed 'tatoes.

Beebs, on the other hand,STILL won't try anything new..well I can't say TRY..he will nibble at whats on MY plate ( he just had a couple pieces of Ramen noodles, without the "flavor packet" of course..but its only a couple nibbles.

Oh, definitely! Any size manual, catalog or book is great as well as paper towels and toilet paper (unscented of course). Any kind of paper pretty much makes Nacho's day... Sorry, couldn't resist! hahah

I'll have to be sure to let Nacho birdy try some chicken next time we have it... come to think of it, I don't think I've given him any kind of meat yet??? He does really well with his veggies, I'll have to be sure to let him try some meaty stuff soon.

Haha Jim,

He hasn't changed any that I can tell and he hasn't learned any exiting new things to show off, but I'll be sure to get some pics up in the next couple days anyway =)
