My amazon has an issue with my girlfriend

Hi,

I have a ~17 year old Double Yellow Headed amazon who is quite bonded to me. I have a somewhat new girlfriend who I've just started to introduce to my bird, and my bird is having none of it. I'm unaware of the sex of my bird, but I'm beginning to think that it may be a female, as it tends to be very dominant around women (starting with my sisters, and now my girlfriend).
My bird is really quite aggressive when my girlfriend comes around. He/she will get as close to my girlfriend as possible, puffed up, wings spread ready to attack. I know it may be a lost cause, knowing how amazons bond, but I was hoping to get some advice I could pass along to my girlfriend to try and help her get my bird to at least be reasonably friendly with her.

This is my advice and I may be wrong totally but I'm going to offer it anyways

I would start by putting the bird away half hour or more before you knee your girl friend wad coming over
have a cup with Some treats etc near the door
your gf must totally ignore you walk straight to the bird cage and say hi to the bird offering it a treat
have her sit for 5 mins by herself next to cage rewarding birc etc then take a chair and sit next to her ( furtherest away from the bird )
don't say anything just sit there and let the bird enjoy her company while you are still there
if the bird reacts negativly to your presense move away and try again in a few more dats etc

Once the bird is comfortable with this in the cage repeat the whole process
Bird outside of but next to cage
and eventually on couch or such until the bird is comfortable with the two of you while outside of cage

Think how long it took your bird to bond with you and how many years it's had to strengthen that bond
you can't expect the bird to bond or even accept your gf as part if your life straight away
she and the bird need to form their own bond before you can all be happy together
