Welcome to the forum. I must ask more details. How much bird experience do you have? Amazons are sometimes difficult to manage but oh such a nice bird. Please read the book Parrots for Dummies as it is an excellent source for educating yourself. Your bird is young and will in time bond to you. Calling out is a flock call. He is scared in a new environment and wants to know if he is safe. I will give you a link here for further explanations.
This is our first bird , she comes out of her cage and she stays on my shoulder but dont seem to like to be held with my hand , when she is on my shoulder and i try to reach for her she bites at my finger ...and she does not like my wife yet at all.
hey mine does the same thing! i know they prefer us not to leave to room so thats what they do. yes its very loud.
its amazing how much sound comes from such a small pair of lungs!
It sounds like your Amazons are flock-calling, which is a normal thing for parrots to do. They want to know where you are and if you're OK, and are waiting for you to respond. It often helps curb the squawking to answer back with a whistle, clicking sound, or simply by saying "I'm still here," "I'm OK," "Be right back," or something like that. In time, they may learn to whistle or click or repeat your phrase instead of screaming. Sometimes it helps to tell the parrot-- before you leave the room-- that you're leaving and will be back in a little while. That probably won't stop the flock-calling, but might tone it down a bit. Amazons are wonderful birds, but they can indeed be very loud, and very persistent.
I've read several places that the shoulder, which puts them above your hand and most of the body (thereby giving them dominance) should be a privelege once they already respect and bond to you. If possible keep the bird to your hand or arm, below your head. Establish your "rank" and a relationship before giving them such a prominent perch.
Otherwise it does sound like your bird just wants your attention. That's good as it seems you have a good bond already.
