YNA,older gal

Hi,new to this arena.
Just picked up a Yellow Nape,shes 15 yrs old,great personality so far,mellow and talkative,d does not seem to care for handling but figure its too early to tell. She was with an older couple who could no longer take care of her,picked her up from the daughter of the couple who was moving:greenyellow and unable to take the bird.
She's a keeper!

I strongly recommend that you read it a loud to your Amazons several times each day for several weeks. If there is more than one member of your family, please have each member do this! This will quickly get everyone up to speed and understanding what your Amazon is telling you.

As part of every Thread that I Post too, with individuals that have a 'new' to them Parrot: It is NEVER the FAULT of the Amazon! It is ALWAYS the FAULT of the Human(s)!!! If you understand everything your Amazon is doing from from this view point, you will quickly come to understand what you are doing wrong and correct your actions.

At present, it sounds like you are not have any difficulties and that is good news. It speaks well for your Amazon's prior owners! Even if you are not currently have problems, please read the section regarding Amazons Body Language! It is truly that important!

Welcome and be welcomed, Pat. Your gal sounds like a nice well adjusted, sociable ;zon. No sweat if she is not into being handled, ie: cuddling. Most Amazons are not, but they usualy love being scratched. Salty likes the top of his head, his nares, and sometimes his neck to be scratched. Sometimes lightly, and some times he likes me to really dig in. Every parrot is different.

A healthy YNA, at fifteen, that would be a Young Adult.

Welcome! I adopted a 30 year old Blue Front last January under similar circumstances. She's very mellow and lovable but she still will not let us touch her. She wants to be around us at all times and pitches a fit if we leave the room! It's been less than a year but I can't imagine life without her.

If anyone has any tips on getting an older bird to step up, that would be helpful. I've tried treats and such. She used to run away from my hand. Now she just sits there. She won't get on a stick either. She's very personable in every other way.

The info on this forum is invaluable,thanks for all the help.her name is Pedro,called that for yrs then they sexed her,a lovely girl.
She knows her name well,laughs,talks,great company.
Slowly getting her off sunflower seeds and whole peanuts.
I'm having problems loading any pics from my phone,no computer.
So,dont have anything yet.

Hi folks,hey,got a question.
Pedro is 15yrs old.
She was brought up with an older couple.
She is not active at all,toys,ropes,shred paper nothing seems to interest her except food.
She's sweet,talkative but a perch slug!
Any ways to motivate her?

Well, the best place in the World to start is right a the Top of the Amazon Forum! The two highlighted Threads in light blue will get you up to speed quickly. I strongly recommend reading them aloud to your Amazon! Amazon's Love to be read too! And, it will help greatly in laying that information deep into your memory. Read them multiple times.

With your Young Adult (Older Gal), I would recommend that you start with Understanding Amazon Body Language (reading it multiple times) and than move onto I Love Amazons ...

You will find that may of your questions will be address with in those two Threads! Once you are well into them, come back with questions and insights!!!
