Names of our fids...

...ok...you can blame CDavis for this thread lol

I've been thinking..been here on this wonderful/informative forum for a while now,reading thousands of threads and posts.. I REALLY get a hearty chortle when I read the names of some of our members names for their fids,some are VERY unique indeed,and I am sure that there is an underlying reason for that fids name..

The following is just a very short list,off the top of my head,of some of our beloved birds names,that put a smile on my face,or make me think "how did that name come about?"

With some of these names,I don't know the parronts name (or just can't remember..hey! I'm old! )
Please feel free to add to the list,I think it'll be interesting to see what we come up with!

Chas or Chasca -- "Tek" // Lauren

Chas is named for the Incan Goddess of Dusk, Dawn, and Flowers. A very sweet natured goddess, Chasca is basically the personification of Venus, springtime, and all things fresh and lovely.

Why this name? My SO is El Salvadorean, so I wanted to take my south american bird and give her a name to somewhat honor their shared heritage.

My birds first names are not that odd. But their FULL names might be.

Stephen is Stephen Winston Alexander, the Great Librarian.

Romeo (aka Romy) is Romeo Séamus Bojangles, the Engineer of Destruction. (He may be getting a new title with the lip incident earlier this week.)

But I agree, I love the names.

Wow...I love this! This is great! Learning that some of these names actually have a meaning/distinction behind them. AWESOME keep 'em coming people!

The names that have real meaning behind them.

Plumas. Our first bird Plumas = feathers in Spanish felt right.
Pacho. Was our 3rd Amazon. Named after a Bird of the same species that my Mother in law has.

Lucky. First cockatiel, rescued from the wild's of Southern California.
Cheeky. White face cockatiel, Fits his looks (no cheek patches) and his bold attitude.

Popeye. Youngest cockatiel baby we kept. Had one eye stuck shut as a baby. We considered "Pirate" but as a young child I went around with one eye closed and was sometimes called Popeye.

Conlan-female gcc- thought she was a male and the name came from one of the characters in a vampire book . I just liked the name aka Connie Lynn or The Little **tch lol

Mouse-female Sun Conure- Came from the same series Conlan's did. It was a nickname for a girl in the series.

Kellan-male jenday- a vampire from the same series as the others..... Anyone noticing a pattern lol. Aka Mr Noisy or Kell-Bell

Happy-RLA- was a rescue that came with her name.

Rhage-male B&G- his name came from another vampire series. It's pronounced like Rage but spelled differently. His color matches the characters eyes

Salty - 8 names went into the hat, 2 from each family member. Salty came out. He is so lucky, some of the other names were just plain bizzare, or incredibly poofy, in fact "Poofy" was one of them. "Salty" was 1 of my 2 contributions. SOMEHOW ( eyes rolling innocently) that was picked.

Ok, even though "Amy" isn't that unique, I was having a hard time thinking of one.
AMY basically is short for AMY-zon ( get it? Amyzon? )

And little fluff ball BB is just short for Baby Bird,which he was when he came home with me.

Bundii is short for Bundiibird. Hubby is a keen collector of Bundaberg Rum which is often shortened to Bundy rum. He thought it was hilarious to name the bird Bundiibird (When said quick sounds like Bundaberg) and she was supposed to be a boy. So now it is shortened to Bundii, with the 2 I's trying to make it more feminine.

Millie on the other hand I was after a more girlie name. Millie was so petite and dainty when we first visited the breeders. I loved the name Daisy but hubby vetoed it. Millie was next in line and it certain suits her. I cannot imagine her named anything else now. That and the way she says her name is hilarious. She calls herself Millie, Mooie, Milliebird. Dragging out each syllable.

Gabby: Named after one of the trainer/performers in a past birdshow at San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

I rescued bonkers and the owner of the store suggested I change his names but after being called bonkers for 17 years it seems kinda cruel to call him something different so I decided to call him Baron Von bonkers because it sounded hilarious and fit well but I pretty much just call him bonkers or Mr.B

Parrots - Robin, Raven, Griffin. (If I had another parrot it would probably be Phoenix, a name I love although it's common). You see a theme? Named after birds or mythological bird-like creatures. I actually didn't plan it that way though. I will always keep budgies too, but for the tiny guys I tend to like 'cute' names.

One of the names our Ferrell had is Maya.
just before falling asleep she mumbles her life stories, more on that another time.

Stockholm was a names that didn't take.

He Named Me LaLa, or, LaLa, seems to be where we've landed.

Dirty Feather is her Native American name, due to her lack of cleanliness.

Suzie, my dearly departed cockatiel, was named by my mother (for whom I'd originally purchased "her".) No particular rhyme or reason behind the name, apparently. The flea market salesman told me that it was a girl, hence that very male cockatiel's decidedly effeminate name. As I learned more about 'tiels, it became obvious to me that Suzie was a boy. Smh.

As time went on, and I was the only one handling Suzie, he eventually became my bird.

Bixby, my first ekkie, was so named in reference to his green coloring. Bixby comes from Bill Bixby, who played Dr. David Banner on The Incredible Hulk television series of the early 80's.

Maya originally belonged to another member on this forum named BreakinNewz and had the beautiful name of Athena. While I loved that name, somehow she didn't seem quite like an "Athena" to me. I don't know why, but the instant I looked at her the name Maya just felt right.

And Jolly was the name given him in his first home with Laura (Labell). She named him Jolly because of his sweet and entirely non-aggressive disposition. He has never bitten out of anger. Not even so much as a hard nip. Not once in his life. So the name is very much appropriate. He also boasts the nicknames Mr. Jay and Barry Allen (the civilian name of the Flash), as he is a blur when flying his laps around the interior of the house... often sending papers and such flying in his wake. Hahaha!

His first inspiration was a parrot in the bird store where I found him as a 3 month old chick... a Hahn's. He was much bigger than the Hahn's (and smaller than a B&G hen who was courting him). He didn't care for the other birds but DID learn to say the Hahn's name... Rickey. "Rickey" and "Hello, Rickey". I had no idea he'd ever learn more words/names, so I left it as was. He turned out to be a real talker/singer, name-caller... pfffft! MANNN, I had so many cute names in mind.

That CONDOR thing came from my sainted mother, who consistently and mistakenly told people I had a Patagonian Condor that sat on my shoulder and sang to me. Can you imagine what bird-savvy people thought??? Many asked me as time went by... "YOU HAVE A CONDOR???????"

My Amazon came to me with her name Happy, she calls herself either Happy or Haps. Lol sometimes Hap, Hap, Haps.
Our Macaw my boys named Tesla after Nikola Tesla. He calls himself Big Bird most of the time.
