Mealy Amazon?

Sponsored Links
Does anyone have any experience with one of these big guys?

There is a 1-year old female for rehoming locally. I have heard they are not quite the screamers other amazons are, and are apt to be much calmer; i.e gentle giants. I'm not saying I'm going to get one, but it definitely piqued my curiosity. It's probably the first non CAG that has really done that.

Re: Mealy Amazon?

Their probably the most layed back and easy going of all the amazons, one of the few of the species that doesn't come with a forewarned bad reputation, even though their somewhat plain in appearence I find them attractive, as you said it's a local re-home, may be worth your while going for a visit

HAHA, you know very well what the harm would be.

That "little" girl will probably be on her cutest behavior.

LOL!! YEEEEPPPPP!!!!!! If it were me and I went to take a look, that "little" girl would be strapped in a seatbelt in my car so fast it would make your head spin. I try NOT to take a look, unless I KNOW I can and am ready to care for it. LOL!!! My daughter (21) has been harping and harping on me to get a Cockatoo, although I've said NO, NO, NO it seems like a thousand times, can you believe I found myself looking to maybe adopt one?!?!?! And especially after I read about Babii!!!!!!
What am I? CRAZY Maui takes up ALL my time as it is and I just recently re homed my beautiful Rosellas' to free me up even more. Even though she's 21 and SAYS I will do ALL of the working with her, I will love her, feed her, teach her, etc..., somehow, I know, that so will I. LOL

I know...I know...but will you always wonder if you don't!

When I met Fred, I was actually thinking it wouldn't be a good fit. I said to hubby..."We'll just take a look, I'll be intimidated, and that'll be it! Fred flew straight to my shoulder, and said Hello, How are you? I took out my chequebook...

LOL! This weekend we went to one of the biggest pet stores I've ever been in to look at cages, and I swear I was being courted by this gorgeous DYH Amazon parrot! He kept catcalling, calling me pretty lady and whistling at me. It was quite honestly the first time I understood why some people impulse-purchase these birds.

As for the OP: really, the decision to go visit the bird is up to you. See if you can figure out why this particular bird spoke to you: was it the situation it was in, the description by the owners, the adorable pictures? At one year old (and hopefully hand tame) you can bet she'll still be cute, but you won't know whether there's a connection until you see her in person.

Wish you all the best on whichever decision you choose!!

Re: Mealy Amazon?

NFE...are you going to have a look? I researched Mealys before getting Fred...they're known to be lovely birds.
