Since losing Plumas Pacho has been hmm I guess depressed is the best word. She plays almost not at all with her toys and is quick to scream when we leave her alone. We are considering options for a cage mate.

The pet store that we got Bella from has had a Lilac Crowned Amazon 16 year old female. It’s been in the store for 6 months (at a guess). Because there coloring and markings are similar I wanted to see what they thought of each other.

Over all it went well. The store bird (don’t remember her name) was VERY interested in Pacho. Started talking to her “hello” and followed her within her cage as I walked around the store.

Pacho looked a little bit intimidated. It could be because of the size difference (store bird is bigger) or just the overall strangeness of the store itself.

And before I get a bunch of comments on the danger of taking my bird into a pet shop… This is not something I do very often, in fact this make the 1st time. Many of my cockatiels came from this store Plus the African grey I bought there. I felt the risk of catching something there was small.

I don’t know how else to tell ahead of time how these two birds will get along. Am open to suggestions. The only reason I have for even thinking about buying this bird is as a companion to Pacho.

Your interest in attempting to determine whether a new member will get along with Pacho is commendable. Although such a meeting likely provides limited information, it provides a base, i.e. whether there is clear dislike or some interest.

I have never had the opportunity or need to pair Amazons. Since, there is truth to the Statement that whenever possible, allow the Amazon to select you. It would seem likely that Amazon 'may' show some interest in liking of disliking another Amazon (non-mating application).

Pet Stores are a hard place to learn this type of information, based on Pacho being distracted by the sights, sounds and smells of the Store than add all of the other Parrots to the mix.

In the mean time, as you are likely already doing, increase your one of one time with her.
