Hi everyone!
I am a new amazon parrot owner...or owned by an amazon as what most people would say.

Recently my male white fronted amazon parrot(5 months old) has been like this sometimes when I am talking to him or looking at him. I am so puzzled in what it means..:/
I would say I am his preferred person but in the past few days he would follow my roomate around more than following me.

One other thing...he would regurgitate on my finger tip sometimes..but not once to my roomate..but he is only 5 months old D:!!! So confused lol!

Please ignore the red stain on his feet and beak (He just ate beetroots and loved it!)

He is gorgeous! I don't know much about amazons at all, but he looks very lively and happy in this picture. Is his stance/expression in the picture the 'behavior' you're referring to?

It just seems like a normal 'alert' expression. I don't see aggression or anything there. He's still young, only a baby, and is still learning about the world. It's a good thing that he is following your roommate, he is socializing, which is great for birds at such a young age. They need all the socialization they can get.

At five months, your Amazon hasn't figured out much of anything regarding specific behaviors. At this time in his (DNA Verified?) life, he is more interested in food and who is more fun to be around and the social order of his flock.

At five months, the goal is to socialize your baby, so that he will go to and be with near anyone! Also, general training, like Step-Up, Step-Down, Beak (bite) training, talking, playing, etc...

He just looks like a parrot being attentive and receptive to what you're saying or doing.

Yes he is DNA verified:)!!!
And yes I have been socializing him! He definitely has met tons of people and birds including an YNA in my building and a little budgie. He has been in car rides and traveled with me to other cities too.

He can do step-up, step-down, wave, wings, node. I am working on him to go to places where I point to these days.

As for talking, he can say peekaboo pretty clearly. I can tell he is working on hi and hello and his name.

I Love Amazons!

Happy to hear that you are working with him :)D)! This is the time in their life to set the learning into place and to be continued all of his life. Socializing is so very important as is Step-Up!

Read the "Understanding Amazon Body Language" in light blue near /at the top of the Amazons Forum! Over the next year, you will begin seeing him incorporate them into his interactions. Get to know them, as if they are your first language! This is a Thread, that you will continue to come back to over and over again!

The "I Love Amazons - ..." is an additional Thread that will provide you in depth knowledge of love and living with your Amazon.

And, Always Remember that: Amazon's Rule!

Like others have said, alert and listening and he looks happy. He's a good looking bird. I have a 27 yo Green Cheek Amazon. I can't get picture of him angry but Husband can, lol. Below are two examples. My Buddy is very vocal so not only does his body language tell me what he's feeling but his sounds too. April, Kiwi's parront got a great shot of Kiwi mad. I'll see if I can find that photo.

Angry, got his eye on Husband being vigilant of what is going to happen.

Super happy. See how his cheeks are a bit puffy? You can't tell in this pic but his tail is fanned out and he was "purring".

Welcome! I love White-Fronted Amazons! They are so animated in their expressions, like this look he has says to me "Hey, I just had beets Mama, look at me!" (I'm glad you told us about the beets, the first thing I thought when I saw the photo was "Oh no, what's wrong with his foot?")

I got my male Senegal parrot in November from a breeder in North Carolina, and he had a clutch of 2 Senegal parrots that had just weaned, and he had 1 remaining White Fronted Amazon from a clutch of 3, that had all been weaned for well over a month. He said the first two were pre-sold and usually the entire clutch was always pre-sold, but for some reason this last little guy was still hanging around...I drove 8 hours to get there, and when I arrived at his house he had the two Senegal babies out WITH the White Fronted Amazon! He tried so hard to change my mind, he was worried he wasn't handling the Amazon enough...I could have gotten him for less than I paid for my Senegal!!!

Your boy is adorable, welcome to the forum!

Ahh, 5 months! THis is when I started to teach Salty the basic tricks. Not becasue I wanted a show parrot, but becasue it moves your bond that much closer. Step up, turning in circles, shake hands, rolling over and more importantly harness training. Do you know his favorite food treat? FInd it. ANd that now is only given in training, when the action has been completed successfuly. Even if you never progress beyond the tricks above, you will have established that only good things come from you. He will want to please you as a matter of course, whether its playing basket ball, or no bite training or wha ever. ANd you will want to do things that will please him. Use the board search and search on Salty, you'll find threads with videos of his training sessions. He is at the point where most tricks take him 1 or 2 tries, becasue he wants to please me, and I only do stuff I know he will enjoy. You want your bond with him as strong as possible, so that when puberty kicks in, you still have a relationship as you pass thru ad out the other side. He is soo cute and wide eyed, just look at that little face Treat him like you would any 2 year old. explain things to him, read to him, say byby when you are leaving and say hi when you retunr.. thats a big deal with parrots, especially if you are his 'person' . Play silly games with him, the sillier the better. Peek a boo ( for both you and him), catch, find the nut, play wrestling, naming things, people, singing songs, calll and response stuff ( example, do you know his contact call for you? DO you have one back to him?). The more interaction you have the better.

Congratulations and welcome to parronthood!

1 or 2 tries? Thats crazy!! Sometimes I feel like he has learned something..but then the next day he just doesnt seem to remember..:<....But he do pick it up faster than the day before.
I will definitely start on the harness training! I can not wait for summer to come so I can take him outside in a harness<3

One more question.. anyone know if this is normal? My white fronted amazon is kind of bald on his head. He is a bit over 5 months old.
