..lol..my little green girl :p
A quiet evening at home tonight...watching the idiot box,and enjoying the company of my two wonderful feathered friends.

amy on one knee,Beebs on the other, both getting tons of lovies and skritches.
I put Amy on her playtop, while Beebs walked along the floor, picking at make believe or invisible pieces of food on the floor (why does he do this? I can have a crumbs from a millet spray on the kitchen table, and he'll walk all along the table, picking at things that aren't there! I have no clue, lol)

Anyway, I'm sitting on the living room floor, vacuum noozel in hand, cleaning under Amy's house, her on her playpen, and I see a "shadow" above my head, and hear flapflapflap, only to see here on Beebs roof top! A good 15 feet away from her home.
I was shocked! In nearly 30 years, she has NEVER flown, and on the 3 or 4
attempts she has made she only made it a couple feet before crash landing ( even when she had full sleeves on her arms, like now)

I am certain it was the sound of the vacuum,or the fact that I was sitting next to her house cleaning and it prolly spooked her. I just wish I saw the whole episode and not just the out come
Vacuuming never spooked her before, she'd just eyeball me while I did her house cleaning.

Or, something truly spooked her!

Sad that you missed it, it is truly something to see, it really is my friend!

So, when Amy landed, was she breathing deeply, wings lifted slightly off her body, etc....?

Actually Steven,by the time I realized what had happened, she was climbing down the front of his house to the floor,so I assume she wasn't beat from her exercise.

Jim you be careful now. No more walking thru parking lots or from the house to the car, with Amy on your shoulder, until you take some precautions. Please my friend. As a guy whose had a parrot fly away ( l32 yrs ago) dont let Amy join the distressing number of accidental escapes.

It's a good lesson to never get complacent.
I have never seen my Pacho fly more than 2 feet and only in one direction... Down.
But I always move her in a cage when going somewhere.

I saw Venus fly for the first time last Friday and I second this recommendation for sure. You've had Amy so long it would be horrible to loose Amy. BTW is Amy a male or female? Sorry to ask but I thought I had read an update over a year ago that Amy was male. Regardless Amy is Amy lol!!!

Yes Tracy Amy IS really AMOS  I've had "her" so long I can't bring myself to call "her" a "he" now, even when typing/talking about her/him!

It is only during the winter months, when she is stuck in the house, that I allow Amy to grow her ( there I go again..HER! lol) fedders back in.
Amy and the Beebs are due to see their doc's real soon for a wellness check and birdicure, where their tootsies will get a trim (both are starting to get pointy).
Amy will get a good clipping ( at least twice a year she does) and I'm going to leave BB flighted..He is really starting to learn and seems to enjoy waving his arms frantically and doing a good job reaching his mark and learning how to land without tumbling or crashing.

Its real funny to me,when he sits on my shoulder..I can feel his little feetsies dig into my sweatshirt and he really starts waving his arms madly lol..I ask him "what are you doing?" and his response?? BB GOOD BOY!

Gotta love the little guy :D

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Amazing, Jim! Will be interesting to see if she enjoyed her solo flight and continues to spread wings.

In my house, the sound of the vacuum signals "Bath time!!" for all our birds. I have no idea why - as soon as they hear it, into their baths they go. ALL of them. Weird, huh?
