I think we have a name picked out!

I believe we've decided to go with Yoshi. My boyfriend thought of it and it just seemed to fit perfectly! So we're pretty sure we're sticking with Yoshi for our little boy.

He's doing much better with eating from a syringe. He'll do his feeding response and I'll get a good 10-15mL down before he stops. Then we just go slow the rest of the way. He always falls asleep on me after eating a full meal. He's currently resting on my chest as we lie outside in the hammock to dry off. He gets quite messy with the formula and I have to wipe his whole face (and sometimes body) off with some warm water!

He seems to get excited when he knows it's feeding time and he sees me get the formula ready. He stretches a lot and sometimes flaps his wings in the air. Does this mean excitement, do you guys know? It seems like that to me, and he only flaps his wings like that when he sees me preparing his food. It's quite adorable!

Yoshi is 5 weeks old as of today. Here is a photo of him from this morning!

Yoshi is a great name! Your little dinosaur. :) Glad to hear he's eating better. He couldn't be cuter!:heart::heart:

Hand-feeding formula sticks to down feathers like cement. Sometimes you can wipe and wipe and it won't come out. I used to bathe my African greys in a small amount of very warm water (hand-feeding temperature). Kizzy didn't like that, so I used a very wet, very warm washcloth to clean her off. After saturating her feathers with warm water from the washcloth, the hand-feeding formula loosened and came off. During the bath and drying off period, I'd adjust the thermostat up to 80 or more degrees (it's hot here during the summer) and wrap her in a towel or washcloth until she dried. It was a good opportunity for cuddles, as well! I recommend doing this when the crop is about one-third full. You don't want to bathe him when he has a full crop because even if you're careful, he might get a tad chilled and not digest his food properly. On an empty crop, he might be frantic for a meal and not cooperate. If you catch him when his crop is mostly empty, the bath will go better. Just be sure to keep him warm during and after the bathing process!

Hand-rearing a parrot is so fulfilling, but it's also a lot of work. I wish you luck! :green1:

Yoshi's little face makes me want to turn into a babbling idiot baby-talking and giving him all the kisses.

Your Amazon's feet look so much smaller in proportion to his body than my Amazon's feet. Maybe there is something to the idea that members of Amazona aestiva xanthopteryx have large feet. For awhile, I considered calling my baby "Sassy," short for Sasquatch.

Little feet or big, Amazon babies rule when it comes to cuteness. Did your camera break from the cuteness overload? :green1:

Our babies are so close in age. I'm curious to see how they progress. I'm also wondering what kind of personality your little guy will have. If possible, share videos as well as photos. Baby parrots are so endearing. I'd love to see how yours behaves.

He's adorable and looks like a Yoshi.

And yes feeding time is exciting to them like any other babies. If you ever watched a litter of puppies trying to climb over each other to nurse it's similar to that. When I handfed Peanut she dived into the cup of formula head first once. It was quite a mess.

I've had parrotlet babies all stand on the rim of the formula cup, fighting over who got to eat directly out of the cup. I'm glad no one fell in. [emoji4]

Pretty sure the (sad, lonely, Bumble-filled) Parrotlet forum needs some pictures of that. Or anything. [emoji4][emoji4]

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Hey at least there is a parrotlet forum. Try going on the yellow shoulder amazon forum. If it wasn't for the amazon forum, Salty would have no views at all. Love your name , Yoshi. Of course he gets exited at meal time, he's an amazon... get used to that. Nothing like stretching the old vocal cords when the pots not pants start rattling.

Ladyhawk, as for personality, right now he doesn't do much of anything. He's definitely super cuddly, loves just sitting on my chest and preening away and then falling asleep. He likes to cuddle right up under my neck. He hasn't shown any sassiness or scared biting at all.

He's getting very curious as of yesterday and today. He likes to mouth anything around him, and waddles around the kitchen counter to explore. Today he tried to pull himself up onto my slow cooker handle to perch, which was very impressive! He didn't make it, and got awkwardly stuck with one foot up there, but I helped him the rest of the way. He's learning to semi-perch on the scale when I weigh him, but stands very still and almost horizontal to balance haha.

But so far it seems his favorite thing is cuddling and being preened by me!

Here's a photo from yesterday when we were outside hammocking together. He wanted my attention, didn't let me read my book very well!
