Do you noticed any mood changes in your amazons depending on the weather?
Ebbe seems so much happier when the sun is out and that's when he does his morning dances. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of sun in sweden during fall.

Also, anyone else that thinks their upset amazon looks a bit like a kakapo?

Well weather has been proven to have a direct impact on our mood and I suspect the same applies to all creatures

It's hilarious how when you understand an animal like a parrot who aren't able to change their face to show emotions like we do (smiling ETC) you can tell exactly how they feel

Most definitely! Kiwi is usually much more active and devilish when the suns out. He's much more puffy and subdued when it's cloudy and rainy. We moved to the American Pacific Northwest, where it is cloudy and rainy a good chunk of the year from a high desert environment where we had about 300 days of sun a year a few years ago. Our first fall/winter/spring up here poor little Kiwi was just a puffball all the time so we got him a Featherbrite lamp. That usually cheers him up when it's on and brings out the amazon in him

When a zon is upset, you can see it in those pinning orange demon eyes! The eyes of a parrot are just as easy to read the expressions of (once you know a birds eye movements) as if they could move their whole face!

Well, I am coming to join my fellow members above and add one more location in which cloudy days are common and that as we edge toward winter, ever shorter days!

As started, Blight Sunshiny Days is an a fairly standard day for Amazons in their Natural Ranges! Yes, during the day, clouds move in, it rains and the clouds move out fairly quickly and even more true in the rainy season. But when compared to where the four of us live! The Natural Ranges have easily 50% more Sunshine!

Kiwi's mom suggested Featherbrite lamp to bring a bit of Sunlight into your Amazons day and I would agree that using any of the LED, Day Light Bulbs will keep both your Amazon and you happier! This type of bulb provide a color of light that is 'like' Full Spectrum Light provide by the Sun!

It is not a replace for the Sun's light, but can be used on those days when the Sun is covered by Clouds or has gone missing for several months during the Winter!

Warning: Do not provide this type of lighting for more than eight (8) hours during the normal daylight times! Either use a dimmer or change to soft light bulbs during non-daylight times. Full Spectrum Lighting when provided by light bulbs can disturb sleep schedules as the mind confuses day /night caused by over use.

I've been reading a bit about full spectrum lightning but the information and thoughts of them seems to be very inconsistent and varying. I actually would like to have that kind of lightning myself because I get very tired this time of the year. It's so dark here during the wintertime, it's ridiculous.
Unfortunately, they are expensive to buy here and I've already spent a lot of my student loans on a bird that's not even mine, but he's worth sooo much. I'll have to look it up some more

We found our (human) full spectrum "SAD" lamp used on eBay for a fraction of the cost of a new one. Kiwi likes that light too, though it's in our office so he's not around the big lamp too much. I'm sure you could find them in Sweden seeing as it's a country known for having long, dark winters... As for full spectrum, I bet even a standard "full spectrum" bulb from the hardware store might be better than nothing even if an avian specific one is too pricey. We have full spectrum LED bulbs in all our lamps and light fixtures now. It was a pretty cheap upgrade for much more pleasant light. We got them from the big chain hardware store here when packs went on sale.

If you are living in an Apartment, your landlord (property owner) or your parents should be able to get a discount from their Utility (electric) company to purchase LED light bulbs as most governmental units are pushing them to help their customers reduce electrical usage.

All Landlords that include the cost of electricity as part of the Rent should have a high level of interest in providing LED light bulbs since they use less then 1/6 the amount of electricity as a standard light bulb!

A single 60 watt LED Day Light Bulb placed about two meters (6') from your Amazon and yourself is enough to provide the needed light during the darker periods of the year. This style bulb will fit into any standard light bulb fixture, so a special light fixture is not needed.

So, you should be able to provide all the light you need with nothing more than one, possible two 60 watt LED Day Light Bulb(s).

Warning: Never place a light bulb in a fixture that is greater than what the fixture is rated! Example: If the fixture is rated for 60 watts, that the larges rate bulb that can be placed in that fixture!

Thank you guys so much!

And sailboat, about the landlord. I live in a student flat, a kind of module housing. Nothing works and I currently have a hole in my ceiling from a leak above. It's been there for over a month and Swedish tv featured this company in a show about bad standards in building jobs. The housing situation in big cities here is bad right now, to say the least.
