Obligatory album of babies progress pictures: https://imgur.com/gallery/doBiP

This is an update on my previous post where I got some great advise from you guys. Momma ended up laying 3 eggs. They all hatched. I did have to help the last egg. It was smaller than the others and had pipped (I am not sure if the terms are the same used for parrot eggs as peafowl eggs) the egg in a few spots but had not started zipping. After no progress for a day I decided to help. It was the same as helping a peafowl egg, just much smaller. The baby had gotten shrink-wrapped so I was glad I helped. The baby was weak and way smaller than the others. Mom was a pro though and baby made it. I checked thier crops daily to be sure they were all being fed and was ready to step in if needed.

I let mom raise them but I took them out regularly for socialization after they grew pinfeathers and opened thier eyes. I ended up having to remove dad which I really, really hated doing but he got overzealous about protecting the nest and would not let her out to eat and drink. After he attacked her and was hanging off her poor tail feathers I took him out. I put him right next to her though so they could see and talk to each other.

All 3 babies are fledged now and have just started to eat on thier own. The first time I picked them up after they fledged they were wild. I think thier fight or flight instinct kicked in. Quite a few bruises from bites later and working with them daily and they are back to being sweet and tame. I let them have time to fly every day to strengthen lung and chest muscles. They were really clumsy at first and I was so scared they would get hurt. They have it figured out now. I have been trying to teach them the basics (learning along with them as I go). They will stay with mom another week or 2.

I was very lucky and everything went perfectly. I had great advise from people in my local bird club and google was a great help also. While I do not regret them having babies I will try to stop it from happening again. I have taken all your advise and researched everything I could find about preventing them from breeding for when I put mom and dad together again. I have learned so much. I have completed my flock and taken in 3 other birds that desperately needed new homes. After learning how many birds there are in need of homes already I would hate to add more to the problem.

Thank you all for your help in my last post.

Wow, a full family of LCAs!

Very happy that with the exception on the male, all has gone textbook so far.

Please remember to create a Hatching Document (think: Birth Certificate) for each of them, including the Hatch Date, Species, and the Species of the Parents (like that part is hard :D). If you elect to DNA sex them, please add that and the DNA Certificate Number and date on the Hatch document! Remember to include your Name and Contact information!

The above is a new regulation based on CITIES International Regulation covering Class I and II Endangered Parrots. This document will have to travel with the Parrot with each change in ownership and if you plan on keeping them for more than a few months, you should also provide the documents to your Certified Avian Vet, so they can make copies of them and include them in their Medical Files. Also, have any new Owner do the same.

In January 2018, this requirement will include ALL Amazons!

Enjoy!

OH! Aren't they precious:07: Glad they've grown into such healthy little guys (and girls). I'm assuming you're keeping them right? That will be so neat to have a full family of amazons:D

Awesome pictures! And you did a marvelous job with them...so happy things turned out the way they did. It is amazing on how fast the little buggers grow.

More pics and updates will be required! :D

Beautiful babies!.
Do you know if you are going to keep them all?

My pair of amazons (Pacho & Plumas) had the same difficulty with the male (Plumas) becoming aggressive towards the female and not letting her out of the nest box. They had been mating and that was why I put in the nest box. Never had any eggs from the mating. I just removed the nest box. something that was not an option for you.

great job with your babies. I know how you feel about not letting theme breed again.
after 2 clutches of Cockatiel babies I had to separate my breeding pair.
I would be hip deep with Cockatiels and it's really hard on the female laying the eggs.

After loosing my beautiful Pacho I am kind of on the look out for a bird to help fill that void left behind. I have been looking for a amazon that chooses me but the area I live has no shelters close by.

The pet shop I bought my CAG from (a rescue the original owners no longer wanted her) had a Lilac crowned amazon but it did not take to me.

Not trying to rush you into anything. Just keep me in mind if you are near my area.

Oh wow, I had no idea about the hatching documents. Thank you so much for letting me know about them.

I decided not to keep them :(. One has a home waiting for it and another has a possible home. I am letting their new owners know though that they always have a home with me if they are unable to keep them.

Thank you guys, I am glad you liked the pictures. I will post more when they get a little older. I try to take some once a week.

Texsize that is one of the main reasons I want to keep them from breeding again. Laying seems pretty rough on the moms from what I have read. I am having a tough time getting the African Grey I took in to quit laying. I have tried all the advise but she just started her second set of eggs even though I left the last ones on the cage floor where she layed them. I don't have an extra dark room is the only thing I have not been able to try. The cage covers aren't working so I'm going to try a different style of thicker material and cover her an hour earlier and see if that helps. So scared of egg binding because she was not in good shape when I got her.

I am 6-8 hours from southern California so not sure if you are up for that long drive to meet the babies. The one that has a home waiting is actually going to California too. I am making people who get them do some research about them and warning about the nightmare hormonal years at around 5 that I have heard about. Hopefully that will keep them from being rehomed later.

I mean I'm on the other side of the Atlantic and going over to go see baby Zons is something I wouldn't say no to, so an 8 hour drive doesn't sound bad at all! (and I'm not even an Amazon snob)

I got my YNA at about 1 year old so I have been through the changes they go through.
Not to far to drive but at 8 Hr. Would require a Hotel before making the drive back. I live in the High desert area Palmdale like.
Probably best for you to find someone closer to you.
Beautiful babies.

Oops sorry, my husband was in the hospital and I forgot about this post. I guess the state would help, lol. I am in Arizona. I have added updated pictures and more info to any interested in their progress.

I really have to stay on top of handling them. Just the few days I didn't have time due to staying at the hospital really made a difference and I had to play catchup. They are back to being sweet again. 2 are going to their new homes in a month so I am really taking my time with working with them to make it more likely they will not have problems in the future.
