Let’s start with Bingo.

Bingo seems to be doing better health wise.
Since I have been giving him the probiotic I have not heard any of the unusual breathing or seen any nasal discharge that I described in previous posts. I will continue with the medication for a full week and make another follow up apt. for next week.
His behavior is as normal as a hormonal Amazon ever is, a little bit P.O.ed with a hair trigger.

Luna.
I have managed to get her to step up on a short perch I hold in my hand. When doing this she no longer tries to bite the hand holding the perch but still wants to bail off as soon as she can.

She only comes out of her cage when SHE wants to. I can leave the door open for hours and she just sits inside and even takes a nap. Trying to get her to step up while inside the cage comes to nothing, she just bites the perch and climbs away from it. The most reliable way to get her to come out is if I have Bingo outside of the cage.

Luna is learning new words and phrases quickly (for an Amazon).
She says Michael (my Sons name) sometimes clearly and sometimes it’s not understandable.
She is working on learning the phrase “such a cute parrot”. This is something that Bingo says (and we say to Bingo) when he is doing his Stevie Wonder imitation. I know there are a few other things she is working on learning but I can’t think of them now.

.Luna & Bingo

The best way to describe their relationship would be a love/hate relationship. Luna seems to be if not in love with perhaps in awe of him. Bingo at this point see’s her at the moment as competition for affection with me. I don’t think it’s hate as a human would define it. He watches her and I have seen him eat food that she eats that he would turn his beak up at before.

The last time Luna and Bingo were out together Luna flew and landed close to Bingo (to close in my and his opinion) less than 2 feet.
Bingo was at my belt level and Luna landed at about my knee. I kept Bingo semi distracted but he did lunge at her, not as an attack but just to make her go away.
I think the issue here is that Bingo does not and can’t see me as “neutral territory” . He is too bonded to me and does not want to share “me” with Luna. Also, until Bingo gets over his hormone overdose I can’t expect any kind of normal interaction.

I know this needs to go slowly and I don’t have a problem with that. Luna is the one that wants to rush but I think the warning the Bingo gave her has made her cool her heals so to speak.
I will keep everyone posted as things develop.

Aren't the fids just fascinating to watch and analyze?
Yes, indeed they are.

And you're good at it. :)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Nice update, particularly that Bingo seems to be improving!

They are fascinating, but your instincts and precautions are great!

Wes..you saw my vid's of Amy...not wanting to get on his perch stick. I can also have his front door open, for hours, and he won't come out, only when HE wants to. No amount of coaxing will get his Amazon butt off his nite-nite perch.

When Smokey was with us (Amy considered Smokes as HIS best bud, even though Smokey didn't agree) Amy would do the lunge thing at me,or Smokey, and I know it wasn't a love/hate thing between Smokey or me.

The news about Bingo's health getting better is a huge relief, not only for you,but for his "fan's" also. Keep getting better Bingo!

Sounds to me that Luna is desperately trying to be real pal's with Bingo. You have the upper hand here, having had Plumas and Pacho for so long. I'm sure Bingo will come around to Luna.

You're doing the right thing by taking it slow. I know you know not to give Bingo any less lovin' and include him in your daily activities. We don't want any "beaks" out of joint here

BTW..what do "The Three Amigo's" think of the new household member?

The 3 amigos and Luna have only been out at the same time once.

The 3 amigos flew in and both scared each other. Thy are not use to an amazon that can fly.

This just happened today.

Luna on ipad.jpg

Was playing games on my ipad with Luna out of her cage. She was exploring and landed on ipad.

She spent at least 20 min. sitting there doing everything (preening, stretching, stand on one foot) but taking a nap.

That shows a lot of trust for her to be so close to my hands.

She is doing so well:D

Wes,

It is enjoyable reading your Threads and Posts as you work with your Parrots.

Your classification of the interaction presents an understanding of both Amazons and what they are expressing. Being one-step in front of an Amazon is no easy task. Being one-step in front of two! Monumental!

Love the updates!

I agree 100% with 'Boat's here. You have had year's experience with these wonderful creature's PLUS experience with multiple 'zon's , that's an extra "sleeve" or two in your cap (feather).
And with Ms. Bella's complete turn around, thats just more proof of your ability's,so if anyone can bring Luna around,it's gonna be you.
Just in the very short time she has been in her new forever home, she has made enormous progress. OF COURSE it has a lot to do with the birdie too!

Beatrice certainly made a great decision on letting you adopt
her :green1:
BTW the picture of her hanging out with you is priceless lol.
