Cockatiels or Amazons for me

HELLO EVERYONE I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO WILL REPLY IN PRIOR ALSO PLS POST PIC OF YOUR COCKATIELS AND NOW I need help I have done 7 years of research on cockatiels I have 8 hours a day to spend with it on week days and weekend almost the whole day to spend I know about their diet toys supplement and how seeds are fatty and a pellet based diet is good a sizable cage I had considered an Amazon but I realized that I can provide for one years ago I know that they love attention do you the pros think I am ready for the challenge and I was looking at amazons for 5 months but I realized I am not ready pls Answer :grey:

An Amazon and a Cockatiel are about as different as you can get

it's like comparing a Bicycle with a rocket car

If you need to ask between a Cockatiel and an Amazon then you're not ready for an Amazon. Remember that if a Zon wants to they can send you to the hospital easily

Ok so I understand that I’m not ready for an Amazon so do you think I am ready for a cockatiel I actually have a sweet side for cockatiels especially , cause I owned one for years :grey:

If this is your first Parrot id go with a Cockatiel in my oppinion. I think Amazons can be trickier but you will be better advised by more experienced forum members , but if you have the time to give and learn and the commitment and the will to never give up on your new Parrot then you could get any type really. Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew though and birds get rehomed because of this. I just know bigger Parrots need more commitment and sometimes patience but good luck whatever you choose x

Just read that you owned a Cockatiel before so id go with another one. Maybe down the line you could get a bigger Parrot.

There are also other smaller types that are great. Quakers, Conures for example can be really sweet and playful. Let us know what you get and send pics too

Amazing Suggestions I heard Senegal’s are also amazing
Sure I will also look at conures :orange:

But I am probably gonna get a cockatiel :grey:

reason behind that is cause I have a lot of experience whatever I chose I hope I make it with the right judgment :white1:

If you owned a Cockatiel for a couple of years and have done the research and have the time you say you do I'd say as long as you are willing to put in the commitment the another Tiel is fine. Quakers and conures are also worth looking at as was suggested by Carl. Parrotlets are another small breed and they have a big parrot personality without the risk of severe lacerations. May have compared Parrotlets to amazons in personality. I don't really feel there is such a thing as a "starter bird" as they all take lots of time and caring no matter what size they are, but smaller birds=smaller beaks=smaller wounds.

Cockateils are amazing, smart and fun birds, just check out posts from AmyMyBlueFront who has both.

Amazons live a lot longer and as been said, can put in hospital if they bite you in the ear or face ... signifficantly LOUDER , if they start screaming. Personally I like the Amazon personality the best - feathered troublemakers, but loving and smart.

You made another thread in the cockatiel section about deciding on a cockatiel. Both cockatiels and Amazons are completely different birds. One may barely send you to a clinic while the other sends you to the emergency room possibly laughing. Since you already had a cockatiel, perhaps look into another one. May I ask what happened to the one you had? There are also conures, specifically green cheeks.

What others have said. Cockatiels are great, and since you’ve already owned one you know how to care for them. Green cheek conures, parrotlets, and quakers are awesome birds as well. In fact, if I could get another bird right now, it would be a parrotlet. They are super smart and have big bird personalities. Cockatiels are more laid back but are super sweet, and green cheeks are very active and playful. No experience with quakers but I’ve heard they’re great talkers.

Hi,
You’re ready for what ever you want in life period if you do enough research. Hey why not a Congo,Macaw,a too? I did research and went and got the parrots adopted a couple you only live once.

I didn’t own a 160# mastiff till I researched them and bought two what’s that have too do with building blocks of owning exotic animals you do the research and if you understand what it takes have the means you go for it that’s called life!
Ya I believe you are confused you should think before you post. Life wouldn’t be life without us humans going after what we want you do the research and if you have the time money and want you go after it.🤩🤩🤩

Well you know I’m going too go off topic because you’re comment was so rediculouse. If I didn’t research and understand and be willing too learn about parrots I wouldn’t have spent almost ten grand in the last 8 months on them if I listen too you I would have a rubber ducky for my bath tub. Also if I didn’t research buying and selling houses I wouldn’t be living in a house with know neighbors in the woods where I can have my birds and dogs I would be living in an apartment broaden your horizons and life gets big and fun.😇

Do you know how many parrots I owned before I adopted my B&G Macaw none does that mean I’m not capable of taking care of one ? Ha I don’t think so we bonded after two months of working my tail off too earn his trust why can’t someone else do that with any other parrot sure the time of bonding will be different but that’s it. Well now I’m confused do you still live home with you’re parents that must be it. When I was a young man I taught myself not too take no for an answer.
