Going to try one of those mega threads for chronicling all of Kiwi's outings this year instead of posting individual threads. We'll see how it goes;)

Yesterday was the first real warm and sunny day this year I've been able to take he who is mostly green out. He was pumped when I brought out the pak-o-bird over the weekend for steam cleaning. Immediately upon being placed in the car, he went through his full range of happy noises and as soon as we hit the freeway, he was making his high pitched "weeeeet" noises and spinning circles (I couldn't pay too much attentions as I was driving but I caught a glimpse and certainly heard it!). Kiwi is pretty funny in the car. He likes to go fast and has a very strong opinion when stuck in traffic, stopped at a rail crossing or long red light etc... It's rather amusing to drive with him:D

We ran a few errands then went to the Bird Hut to say hello to the other birdies and get some goodies. It was really LOUD in there, which Kiwi was none too pleased with. He's a quiet bird and is used to a quiet home. He was a bit rattled at the volume of 20-30 shouting parrots (I was a bit rattled by the racket as well! Made me REALLY appreciate how quiet Kiwi is comparatively). For some reason, they have a lot of large macaws right now and I never realized how loud CAGs can go either because there was one in there keeping pace with the Big Macs in jungle call volume! I know, it was rude to do right in front of him, but they have this darling elderly YNA who is not for sale, but she does have a sign by her cage saying she likes scritchies. I think she would have had me there all afternoon rubbing her little head. So sweet! The other one who's extremely loud voice got me was an alexandrine parrot, who I can only presume was jealous I was scritiching the YNA, but his sign did not say he liked to be petted. I rather like having all my fingers more than petting strange birds and those big alexandrines have sizable beaks;) They also had a big DYH who was quite interested in me and an all around gorgeous bird (NO I am not considering purchasing him) and several blue fronts and yellow napes for sale as well. While Kiwi did not come home with a new friend, he did come home witch several new toys, some cuttle bones and a whole bunch of those Chinese finger traps he likes to rip up.

After we got home, something was out like a light for the rest of the afternoon until hubby got off work. Never a bad thing to wear em out and have a few hours of peace and not being doomed by a certain :green:

More tales of Kiwi's outings to follow!

With the 'Star' status of Kiwi and his Mother's touch for dry humor, this Thread will likely need that Warning Sign: Danger: Drinking, holding liquids and /or having liquids within arms reach is Not Recommended! :D

I know that a certain DYH Amazon will be logging in 'after-hours' to keep-up with his partner in behind the door covert activities of their group: Amazons Unite!

Star status. Pshhh... don't say things like that. He has more than a big enough ego:rolleyes: However, do be careful where you set your glass if it's not right beside you because while you're reading this thread, a certain yellow headed amazon is liable to go dip a food covered potty beak in it for a drink:D

"NO, sir, officer... our amazons are definitely, positively NOT in fact planning a summertime Doritos truck jacking at beak-point:eek: Why ever would you ask such a question?":16::16:

Don't be too Jealous. It's right back to chilly and rainy today. Yesterday was a freak nice day in early March, but it typically isn't much good parrot weather here until mid-April.

Tell Amy it won't be long before she can go out too!

I think you'll like having a 'home thread', just remember to write about all the good stuff, so when you feel like tripping down memory lane, you realize what a swell parrot Kiwi is.

Sir demon face came with us to the food carts (aka amazon Disneyland) last night. Naturally, being an amazon, he loves it there (for obvious reasons:p). As per usual, we had several families come over to say hello to the big green bird in a backpack and last night Kiwi was feeling especially happy/friendly and put on a big display for them, shouting "hello" and making big wolf whistles and goose honks. This, of course, greatly delights tiny humans. Kiwi is so cute with kids, he really likes them and seems to go out of his way to entertain them.

Hubby took a picture of me by a food cart, with an apt name and logo if you ask me:p:27::green: Also a good pic to show how big the medium pak-o-bird really is! I'm 5'6 and an 'average' weight for my height. The POB is almost as long as my entire torso, slightly wider and thicker! It's not heavy at all, just bulky.

Check out Sir Kiwi getting his out and about on!

You're right, April, that pic is great for size reference. (And it's a nice pic, too!)

That POB has held up for quite some time now, too! How long have you had it, again? Any signs of wear?

We got our POB in early 2014, so we're heading into our 5th season of use. It's been out hundreds of times plus we also use it at home quite a bit, front open as a spot for Kiwi to hang out sometimes. No signs of wear+tear yet, but for as much as these things cost, I would certainly hope it continues to hold up for a couple more years at least! Admittedly, Kiwi does not try to destroy or chew his way out, he just hangs out in it. I do a light steam clean it a few times a year and we do not feed Kiwi "messy" foods while in it. If you remember at all, I hand sewed in a custom, cheerful lining because I was afraid Kiwi would feel afraid to be put in such a small carrier due to having been stuck in a dog/cat carrier of a similar size in his prior home:mad:. My custom lining is also still all in-tact:)

Another vote for PoB. If you can't get your fid into a harness , this is one outstanding way for them to soak up some fresh air and sunshine. Most kids love parrots, especially if they say Hello.

Yup, Kiwi has become a good ambassador for parrots locally and kids love him as much as he loves them. Always very happy/excited to see everyone and never turns down free attention and praises from strangers:p

Even with Kiwi being harness trained now, POB is also our preferred mode of transport for public activities for a few reasons:

-It provides a safe barrier between him and the general public. Sorry, but the world is overrun with idiots, feral children and untrained dogs. I want my bird protected!

-It buckles into the the car securely. Having him loose in a moving vehicle would make me so nervous. At least he'd have a chance in an accident while contained in a soft sided carrier.

-He has a place to poop besides down my back and/or doesn't have to hold it in.

-Kiwi only tolerates being on shoulders for so long. He prefers sitting on a branch. This is probably a fairly unique problem though.

-We can also install the dishes it came with if we're on a longer day trip and stop for lunch.

-If it gets windy/overly sunny/starts to rain or he needs to nap on the ride home etc... there are roll down flaps.

I know POBs are expensive, but ours has proven to be durable and it's worth every single penny!

Will Mr. Julio be getting a POB of his own this summer? You know, if/when he finds out his buddy has one, he's going to be asking for one too:D
