Are their any opinions on why my YN flew off his cage and went after my face?

First off Raider was a bad biter at when I first brought him home. He is 4 years old we have been making great progress lately. Heā€™s been letting me hold him every day and seemed too fit in great with my other birds the whole every day routine.
Well today I was giving the crew some treats working my way too him and he flew at my face and bounced off of me and landed on my Goffins cage who I was giving treats too at the time. He then started doing the demon dance and shaking I never saw him shake before.
So I let him cool off for a few minutes and he came right too me and I put him back on his cage...he then went in his cage and did more demon dancing for about ten minutes and stopped. What the hell was he doing?

Welcome to the joys of Hormones. An intense rush of Hormones is very likely to blame! It helps to understand that it is the Hormones and not the Amazon. They have no real control over these events. It is your responsibility to be watchful and aware of your Amazon's Body Language.

Time to read that first Thread in the Amazon Forum and become an expert at reading your Amazon! Note: What is provided is the Basics of understanding Amazon Body Language. Once you have those basics down, you will begin seeing other Body Language signs and signals that your Amazon will develop!

The 'Art' of Distraction and Redirection are tools that you will need to add to your tool box of Amazon stuff. Have the dancing Mr. Towel around also helps.

Yes I guess the poor guy is hornyšŸ˜Ž and raging for a lady friend. I have too pay more attention too his crazy dancing itā€™s hard too tell when heā€™s happy or getting ready too pounce because he came right too me without biting and his eyes were pinning like crazy I was expecting too get bit. I had too get him off my Goffins cage because she was going after his feet.

This has been interesting to learn about Amazons. My conures have never once done a demon dance, can you believe it? Not even once...

Lol the amazons literally look like little demons when they get worked up.

I would watch and see if your amazon gets consistently worked up about particular objects, places or other birds. You will be able to work around the objects and behavior if he is being triggered by you going near anything. Kelly is extremely possessive of the cabinets under the tv. He will give even me attitude about that area and will fly and attack other people that touch it. Doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s hormone time or not he protects that area like itā€™s a nest site. Everyone knows to watch out if you dare to go under the tv while he is out.

Its hormones. My birdie was a little sh@t most of yesterday with many outbursts. Total opposite of his usual personality. I find putting him in his cage seems to calm things without making it seem like a punishment. If its your guys first hormonal phase i think it kinda hits them hard x
