So I bought Bonkers a harness because all he does is look outside and talk to the wilderness and it came in today and bonkers has never bitten me before so I was like this will be a piece of cake and like the idiot I am i thought that immediately trying to put it on him would be a good idea

so he stuck his head through the loop and I tried getting his wings through and holy mackerel it was a freaking bloodbath he's yelling I'm wounded but by pure luck it went onto him and i immediately took him outside so he would see what the reward was for putting it on and he loved it and didn't even tug on his harness while we were outside but it came time to bring him back inside and take it off and a bloodbath of epic proportions ensued he was yelling and trying to bite both my fingers and the harness off at the same time but we just managed to take it off.

Now he is literally laughing at me while I'm dressing my wounds. So my lesson today had been, Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Yep...tomorrow it's suppose to be sunny and in the 80's here..FINALLY!
And I promised Amy I'll put his 'Salty Perch" that Al and Salty so graciously donated to Amy,into the car and we'll go out seeing the sites..it's long passed due

Yeah you don't just get a harness and throw it on like a new dog collar. Salty's put his head thru the head loop hundreds of times in training sessions, and we've put the harness on dozens and dozens of time ( 4 times in one head) and I still have the wrestle him into it. Good thing he trusts me a lot in doing it, or I could see the bloodbath mentioned above ensuing. Seriously,Iwould see if you could swap out the color for a different one, and start over, going slowly. I let Salty ply with his before we even started head loop training,letting him throw it off the table, putting it into a bowl... so he isn't afraid of it. Let them booboos heal and start over! GoodLuck!

I had similar problems with my Bingo.
Putting on the harness went pretty smooth, taking it off was the problem.

He gets very impatient and I am afraid the he will get tangled up in it.

Only used the harness once. have not tried it since. I did not get bitten badly but I am scared for HIM and that I might have to take the Gordian knot solution to get the harness off him.

I elected to not even try that path! We live in Red Tail Hawk central, plus five different families use our side and back yard as flight training for their young. Just too dangerous here.

Sorry, I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you Sounds just like an amazon! Kiwi knows better than to bite, but the first time we put his harness on like it or not he reacted as though he'd ben set on fire and was generally highly offended about the whole ordeal. He has gotten used to it now, though sadly a huge eagle has moved into the area so we're unable to take him out on it unless we go to a park or somewhere away from home

FYI- We went with the feather tether, which IMO, is the better option for stubborn birds than the Aviator. It buckles on and off, so no pulling it on or off their body/head. Kiwi wouldn't be harness trained had we got the aviator.
