Someone called saying there was a bird on craigslist (Sacramento) who looked like Kizzy. Here's a link to the video:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/eeshexcvducqzhn/IMG_4848.MOV?dl=0

I think this bird is a female, but my opinion is she's not Kizzy. Kizzy would be in the middle of her first molt. I don't think she could have gained that much yellow on her wings. Also, the bird in the video doesn't have as much blue. I don't know if the amount of blue can decrease. There is no trace of the blue and green mask Kizzy had.

From what I've read, Amazons start their first molt at 9-10 months old. I don't think Kizzy could have changed this much. Also, this bird doesn't act like Kizzy or say the same things. That could change, but I think she would have kept some of her vocabulary. The beak and face shape is similar, but that's all.

Anyway, I didn't want to simply say it wasn't Kizzy without some input from those who may be more familiar with a baby Amazon's first molt.

When I think of Kizzy, it's still like a knife in the heart. Facebook keeps wanting me to share things from exactly one year ago every single day, so I see pictures, videos and posts. Everything I did revolved around Kizzy. I found something that said, "turn off sharing recommendations" but it didn't work. I contacted Facebook. They haven't got back to me. Facebook should know there are things people don't really want to look at again...at least not yet. Social media is emotionally tone deaf in a multitude of ways.

Oh my kid knows how to turn that off. We had to do it for my boyfriend after our dog passed last fall. I’ve just sent her an email and I’ll let you know when she responds.

Thanks. Maybe I didn't save the settings or something. I can't remember how to get where I was.

Is this the ad you are talking about? I didnt see a video on this ad, but its in Sacramento too.

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/pet/d/bluefront-amazon-parrot/6589009206.html

Yes, I saw this after my mother called, telling me about the person who called her. We're not sure whether or not this is the ad, but if it is, the person has some explaining to do because the bird in the pictures (craigslist) and the bird in the video are two different Amazons. The bird on craigslist has a blue patch just like Kizzy's, but he appears to be an older male with a large beak and square head. The bird in the video has a blue patch of a different shape and looks female to me. Neither look enough like Kizzy to make me go charging down into the valley, but if the same person is behind the ad, there may be some explaining to do.

I'll try to suss it out.

Found these instructions on FB that may help:

"You can control which memories you see by adding filters for people or dates you don’t want to be reminded of.

To filter memories for dates:

Does the voice tonal quality of the bird in video resemble Kizzy?

Not really, nor do her actions. Kizzy tended to talk more quietly, but that could have changed. Kizzy didn't say or do any of the things the bird in the video did.

This was Kizzy's favorite place to talk. Notice that she hadn't yet started flaring her tail or raising her neck feathers while talking. That probably would have come later. You can hear the things she liked to say:

God, I miss her. :(

That's the same ad/bird I had posted the link to in your original thread, and I believe another member had been texting with the person selling the bird...I'm sorry that you didn't see my post about it, it was weeks ago, I was very concerned it was Kizzy because of how much the bird looked like Kizzy.

I also thought/still think this person is suspect, because not only did they list not one specific detail about the bird, no age, background, history, etc., but they called it a "Turquoise Amazon Parrot" in their ad and it's title.

I was hoping that you had seen it, so I feel better now that you have and you've determined that it is not Kizzy...but keep in-mind that this is also someone's bird that was found by someone CLOSE TO YOU, that someone obviously found and is now trying to sell!!! So checking your local Craigslist often is a must! And be sure to search the full 200 miles out from your own local Craigslist allows you to do. The easiest way is to find your local Craigslist/community/pets page, or the one closest to your hometown if your hometown doesn't have one, and then once you look on that page, go to the left side of the page and make the search option "200 miles", and then go to the top of the page, to the search bar, and type in whatever you want to search for, such as "Amazon" or "parrot", etc. It will show you every ad that contains that term that is posted within 200 miles of the location page you're searching from...that's how I found this ad to begin with...I don't believe Sonora, CA has a local Craigslist page, but I found the next closest town to Sonora that does by using the Craigslist map, and started my search from there...I haven't done a search in your area since I found this ad about 2-3 weeks ago, so it would be a good idea to do it again now...

Also, did you post a "Lost Bird" ad on the Parrot911 website? If not you really should, it's the largest organization in the world for finding lost birds, they reconnect tons and tons of people with their lost birds every single day.

Just a quick response for now: I think I might contact the person who placed the ad, ask for video and see if they send me a video of a different bird. The bird in the ad and the bird in the video are NOT the same bird. Someone who hasn't been around parrots might think they are, but it's pretty obvious they're not. Besides the differences in markings, I'm pretty sure one is a male and the other is a female...yeah, I know you can't be certain without a DNA test, but it's a fairly well-educated guess.

Is there anyone here who lives in Sacramento? Maybe there's a THIRD blue-fronted Amazon parrot for sale.

Obviously, this has been very hard on me. My health suffered greatly. After using all my strength looking for Kizzy, it's hard for me to come here. :(

Also, if something can be done to find a missing bird, I've almost certainly done it. I think I posted on Parrot911 the same night she disappeared. The lady who called saw my flyer in a vet's office in Sacramento because I did a mass-mailing to all avian vets, bird clubs and bird stores in the state...well, as many as I could find in the yellow pages. Lately, I've stopped looking because in my heart of hearts, I think she is dead and there is no reason to prolong my pain. Still, I couldn't simply ignore the call.

Yes, this ad is fishy. Presenting two birds as the same bird is suspicious AF. If I still think it sounds fishy after I contact the person, how should I alert authorities? Again, my health really suffered. I can't just hop into a car and drive to Sacramento. If I could, I would, just to be sure.

Also, I don't know what I'd do if I found Kizzy. How do you reclaim a lost bird when someone else has possession? There's no way I could wait for a court date. Question: are the scales on a bird's feet unique to that bird? If so, I could identify her that way. I have lots of close-ups of her feet.

I'm sorry that you've been going through all of this, I understand why you just can't continue to deal with it, anyone would understand that. I apologize for bringing this up...

I saw a different video with a different BFA too, the first bird did not have the green mask around it's eyes like the bird in this video does. That combined with them advertising them as "Turquoise Amazon Parrots" and the fact that they list not one single specific detail about the bird(s) leads me to believe that they are most-likely "Bird-Flippers"...and there are a lot of them...

As far as what to do if you do find Kizzy, the very first thing you do is call the law enforcement agency LOCAL TO THE PERSON WHO HAS THE BIRD. You explain the entire situation and give them dates, and give them specifics about Kizzy, every one that you can, including things that Kizzy would regularly say, as most parrots who talk will randomly say the same things over and over again for years and years, maybe their entire lives. So if the bird they are looking at suddenly says one of the phrases you mention to law enforcement, that's a dead giveaway. Then you gather every single photo, video, etc. that you have of Kizzy's for them to compare. The person or people who have her would have to explain to law enforcement where they got her, when they got her, and give names, such as their bird's breeder, the pet shop or bird shop, or the prior owner that they got her from, and when that doesn't pan-out, then they're caught...typically when they are asked for those details and they know they can't give them, they usually break-down and admit that they found the bird outside somewhere...
