...three days in a row! Yowza :green:

We were out for three hours today, drove thru town, went to the local park, hit the donut factory for a coolatta and munchkin, one of the girls remembered Amy...Hiiiii Amy!!!,gave him his munchkin lol.

While driving thru town, I was at a light. A local cop behind me.The light turns green and I proceed only to see flashing lights behind me
The cop asks for licese, reg, and insurance card..WTH? I didn't do anything wrong..I was stopped at a light for pete sake
He says he stopped me for "distracted driving"! I said !@#$% I wasn't on my phone or anything and he says "ya I know, you have a PARROT on your shoulder and I watched you scratching his head"I said YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!!
He tells me " Ya...I'm kidding you!!" My wife and I have a cockatoo and I just wanted to see your Amazon!" Obviously he knew what kind of bird Amy is
Anyway,he tells me about "Charlie" and I give him the low down on Amy.
He asked if Amy is friendly and would he step up for him. I told him most of the time hes friendly to strangers but at times..ehhhh.. I said if you want to try go ahead, but be for warned..if he poofs up and tail flairs,be prepared.

He says he knows all about body ingo and has been chomped on on more than one occasion.

I told him not to extend his fingers, make a fist, and SLOWLY move towards Amy and say "c'mon Amy,step up"

Amy was on his perch stick, and the officer went real easy and dang if Amy didn't hesitantly climb on his arm, then lower his head for skritches
I told the cop that Amy has a bunch of pins coming in on his head and likes skritches. Thirty seconds of skritching and Amy had enough and I took him back. All went well!! :D

I don't know what to make of Amy..honestly. Like I mentioned in a previous post,Amy is a different bird when we go out and about. Today he was real playful with me..nibbling my sun glasses,resting/rubbing his beak against my cheek..VERY gently beaking my finger. He sat on my right shoulder,,content as all..looking out the windows, mumbling softly in my ear.
He didn't freak out if we got out of the car to go into a store..We visited TJ, Jonesy's parront. One of the Parks crew at the local park came right up and talked to Amy with no issue's...we even went to visit my dad and mom and brother at the local cemetary..

Amy really seems to be enjoying his outings (and his Munchkins) and is making lots of new friends too. :)

Awe, it's so sweet that you're spending so much time with Amy, I'm sure he absolutely loves it...I started taking Kane out with me on a regular basis a few weeks ago as well, and it's been so much fun for not only him, but for me too! We go to the pet shops, we go to all of the stores that allow "pets" inside, like Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc. and Kane just loves this...it takes him one store to loosen-up a bit, but by the time we get to the second store he's off my shoulder and onto the shopping cart (I HAVE to get a cart, even if I'm not buying anything, lol, Kane demands this!) Once he moves to the shopping cart all bets are off, he's dancing, talking, singing, stepping-up for everyone, etc. He loves it...I get tired after the 200th time I'm asked "What kind of parrot is that?", which goes something like "He's a Senegal Parrot."..."A what?"..."A Sen-e-gal Parrot."..."Oh, where do they come from?"..."Senegal."...LOL

I do hate the people that just walk-up and start petting Kane, or poking at him, though Kane doesn't bite and is very tolerant of this (to his credit, as I myself, as a human, would bite any stranger who started poking me and touching me, lol), but it's such horrible practice, they're going to find out the hard-way some day, when they just walk up and touch a bird that doesn't like it and lose their finger...or a dog for that matter, I see that all the time with Service-Dogs, people just walk up and start petting them, talking to them, etc., and they get the "Excuse me, he's working right now, please don't distract him", and then the person gets all offended...I'm quite certain that if Kane ever does bite someone who just walks up and starts touching him without asking, I'll end-up getting sued...

Anyway, it's amazing how much they love to go out with you and be with you, and I just have a blast. I feel proud of my little man, getting all the compliments about how pretty and well-trained he is...I don't have human kids, so it's nice to have my fids with me when I go out...I'm going to have to stop and get Kane a Munchkin next week when we go out, he got some lemonade yesterday at Sheetz, and he usually gets a french-fry or a piece of pizza when we go out, but a Munchkin is a good idea...we had an incident last week at Walmart with a Delmonico steak, lol...my fault for not watching what he was doing inside of the cart, oops...

Okay, last night I took Kane to Walmart on a quick-run, and while in the self-checkout there were two employees talking about their schedule. The woman suddenly interrupted the man and said "Awe, look at the parrot" as Kane was walking around the cart. The man then says "Oh yeah, but I think it's a Cockatiel, not a parrot"...:(

Now forgetting that Cockatiels ARE PARROTS...KANE IS GREEN AND ORANGE!!!

The woman walked over after the man left and asked "Is he a parrot?"

NO, HE'S A DOG...

Kane was deeply offended...

Two very funny stories about taking your parrots into the big wild world. I have always thought that being able to take a parrot with you, going outside and letting see the world, was one of the reasons I have had a parrot for almost 30 yrs

Typical blue front- attracting the attention of the police with their nefarious activities and well earned reputation then worming their way out of trouble with adorable actions:D Love the story and the photos. Amy looks really happy to be out!

I had several people on trains call my Senegals "parakeets" a couple of years ago... I mean, they were small parrots, but... Parakeets?
I guess it's not as bad as being called a cockatiel, that's a lot more different :p

When I was walking through the neighborhood with my Yellow-crowned Amazon Donnie in his carrier, I had a child run after me, very excitedly asking me why I had a frog in a cage. :D

Great Story!

There is no doubt my Rudy is a different bird when we go outside. I attribute his actions similar to any male. he is looking for something to ......:p

Rudy has sat on several police officers arms however I am very aware that Rudy is a pirate, not a parrot. he loves all the shiny gear police officers wear!

aaargh matey!

I was reading several of your threads late last night (lurker mode) and wanted to say how stunning Amy's plumage is. He's just radiant. I look forward to reading more of your adventures.

Sounds like so much fun!
Charlie comes pretty much everywhere with me. The post office lady loves him and even nicknamed him buddy.
Charlie is the same as Amy, he is such a completely different birdie when out minus his occasional growling at passing people.
