I live in Texas, we have a gun, I don't like the gun but tonight I actually thought I was going to have to use it. My Husband is at a football game and I was home alone working. I do not answer the door if someone shows up due to an event from years ago, so there the scene is set. Someone rings my door bell numerous times, I was in my bathroom and I had not closed the blinds on the windows yet but it was dark out. Of course my pug Lola and my English Bully Canelo start barking. Nothing out of the ordinary but then I hear Buddy and Buzz go off, their cages are at the window to the backyard and both were on top of their play tops. Buddy my CAG was louder and more vicious than any other creature in the house. He meant business! My little chicken was my biggest guard! And he was vicious!!! He was slapping his wings, eyes pinned and tail spread in ANGER! I could see him from the bathroom.

It turns out is was my cousin coming to see me and he did come in the backyard after I didn't answer the front door. Buddy was his mother's bird that I took in after she passed. He confessed to coming in the backyard gate to see if anyone was in the house and all he saw was Buddy in the window in battle mode. I am wondering if Buddy was able to recognize him. As for my tough looking bulldog, he was next to me in the bathroom. I guess he was guarding me close, lol! I am totally amazed at Buddy right now.

Yessiree! Amy will squawk loudly in Amazon speak if he hears/see's something out of the ordinary :18: His house is located between the north and west side windows and has a "bird's eye view" out either window. If kids are cutting thru my front yard ( my place is on a corner lot) or people are walking the sidewalk that runs the length of my property on the west side,he'll let me know!
Sometimes,he'll turn his head sideways/upside down and let out a "trill",something like a "red alert Dad!"

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
They are looking out for you- that is great! :)

Do NOT mess with a watch-parrot on duty.

(Sunny will screach 5 times in a row when she sees someone passing or standing in front of my door -> a good thing that does not happen very often* or I would go deaf!
*being on first floor and gated unless someone leaves the outher door open )

I bet Buddy could have scared off any burglar for you! I'm glad it was just your cousin and not a bad guy. Also glad you didn't have to defend yourself. I grew up in Arizona, which like in Texas, everyone loves their guns. I have never felt a need to own a gun as an adult (though I was raised around them and am a decent shot). After a terrifying incident a few months ago while out walking by myself early morning and just reading the news recently (apparently we have a cat mutilating psychopath on the loose about 2 hours north of us), it seems like a better and better idea to have one for protection! It's getting scary out there and there are far more dangerous creeps lurking these days than cousins who forgot to call ahead;)

That's a great story! Glad it was nothing, tho are you sure about this cousin?!? No backyard snooping! My babies alarm call if they spot any humans out and about, my neighborhood people seem to never go outside!

Oh, fellow Texan, gadzszsz!
Yeah, the Rb and his assistant, Pinkie the Little Red Mutt, are vigilant guards. An alert call from either sets the other one off! I always worried that an intruder would do one or both harm until we got an alarm system!

I've grown up around guns, my father had his collection and taught us all to shoot. I'm a good shot but I have never felt the need to have a gun, plus to me it's not a simple thought to shoot or not because I think about I'd be scared to death and shaking, what if my shot is off, it can go through a wall, hit someone or something else, things happen fast and may not be clear, lots of thoughts! This year I have been researching camera systems and tasers. I like to walk and right now I carry a billy club style flashlight.

As for my cousin, he got an earful. I told him going into the back gate and into the yard was stupid and would definitely get him hurt.

My dogs protect the family and the property but not me. They look to me to protect them in most situations.

As far as guns go, if I'm wearing clothes I am armed with a minimum of one.

Here in CT we're required to have a permit...which I have.. A S&W 357 sits in my night stand on my right and a Taurus 44 mag sits in the night stand to my left..so choose your poison :rolleyes:
I only carry ( a North American 22 mini mag) when I'm out on my m/c.
