Hi all,
Still on my adventure of deciding weather or not I should be owned by an Amazon, but just curious to the size, does any one on these forums have a way to show me the sizing of their amazon?

DYH Amazon
One of the quickest ways of understanding size is weight. Birds can believed to be heavy or light depending on the length of their feathers. A smaller Mac is still big, but may feel light at 850 grams, because we believe they 'should' be heavier because of the length of their feathers. The numbers never confuse, after all 850 grams is simply much more bird that 500 grams or 250 grams.

As a family, the different species of Amazons will start near the 250 gram mark and continue well in to the 700+ gram World. Our Double Yellow-Headed Amazon is on the smaller size of his species, but rates a 9 out of 10 when compared to the nominate (perfection). His weight varies during the year, but tips the scale at 500+ grams in the depth of Winter. At the larger end of the DYH Amazons, the 625 gram range is possible. In his weight class, having him swoop in and land from the back on your shoulder is an eye opener.

I hope that this helps.
Just remember, Amazons' Have More Fun!

I also think that the sizes can vary within a group. My BFA is 550 gms, and is very tall for his breed. Almost 12 inches long head to tip of tail. He is not fat, just large.

I see you have an Alexandrine - I’ve got plenty of pictures of my Alexandrine next to my Amazons on my blog, poi?s parrots :D
Both of my ’zons are very average sized for their species. My BFA is usually the second largest BFA at my local bird meet-ups so he’s leaning towards the larger side, but it isn’t too noticable I don’t think.
Hopefully that gives you some sort of grasp on how big they are compared to Alexes at least!

Here’s a pretty good comparison:

1 RLA (Pacho R.I.P.)
2 GCA(Luna,Merlin) The Twins
1 Congo AG (Bella)

I think the best way as an overall size comparison would be a photo of your amazon should surfing (a selfe with you bird on your shoulder)

Pacho my red lored amazon was my smallest amazon.
Bingo my YNA remains the largest of all my Fids.

1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
My BFA is roughly the size of a small crow. Smaller amazons are similar in size to a pigeon. Amazons are built a bit 'stockier' than other birds and tend to appear a bit plump even if a healthy weight. Especially flighted amazons who fly often- they can look outright fat but be pure muscle on a thick frame.

Maverick - BFA (hatchdate: 05/04/2016)
Our BFA is quite small, he is 2.5 years old and weights 330-350 grams. He eats like a pig, I think he's just small and has toned up some now that his flight feathers are back and he's doing a lot more flapping and short flights.

As you are doubting for the size I suppose you mean how big they are, it happened the same to me.
They are more or less like an African grey, I suppose you’ve seen some of these.
