I went to my local pet store

I haven't been at this place in over a year. I believe it was last year before school started. Just went in today and I was really happy to see it had changed owners and was quite a bit different. As before, going through the fish tanks to the back where the bird stuff was is stinky. I seen a couple big bird cages that weren't there before and got excited! There were three big Parrots and a bunch of smaller birds too. The place had a bunch of Parrot stuff that I have been reading about on here. So I got a rope perch that I put back in the corner of his cage. I also got a big thick green one that bolts on and just sticks out. The new owner was pretty nice and answered all my questions with answers that I have just been reading on here. I got to go in "the back room!" There was another bird a YHA that was close to my YNA. It was really cool to he him picking up his birds and handling them so easily and not being nervous. I'm still a bit cautious with Bill. He had an AG that just roamed around the store. The biggest bird was a red Macaw! I guess I didn't realize how large of a bird they are! I would not want to get attacked by something of that size. So I got to talk about birds for awhile and it was cool. Can't wait to go back. As I was leaving he says "bring Bill in sometime!" Nothing would make me happier then to be able to do that, but I think it won't be till at least next summer? I don't even know if my Bill can fly? He has flapped his butt off making a bunch of feathers fly and noise and has dropped to the floor and the back of the couch. I guess he went onto the kitchen floor too. I would be nervous that he would get mad and not like something and then I'd be stuck. I can tell when hes mad and I don't get up on him cause I don't want bit. I know in time I will be able to, I'm not going to give up. So again I have some cool stuff happen with and about my new friend. My life has been turned around so much since he picked me at my mothers. Being picked is something that not everyone can understand. I'm watching Bill rip up the paper I just cleaned and put down for him. I'm not even mad I'm telling him to have more fun. If my dog did that I would tell him no and put him outside. I'm thinking the bird is kind of special !

Awesome! Remember, with a parrot, you never discipline negatively! You will either get your butt kicked, or you will negatively effect your companion! Always a redirect, and also step back and reassess the situation!
Yesterday morning, my JoJo ‘outright’ attacked me! I saw his body language and had a moment to keep from reacting harshly! Why the attack? I keep my hair very short, but go months between cuts! I cut it the night before and he didn’t recognize me at first when I took him out for his AM jaunt! They will die to stand their ground an protect!

Re: I went to my local pet store

It’s always cool to visit stores that carry parrots.
Only 1 store in my area that has anything more than budgies and it’s a mom&pops store not a chain store.
I bought my CAG from them 2 years ago next month and 3 of my Cockatiels from them.

Bella the AG and 1 of the 3 Tiels picked me. It’s a wonderful feeling when that connection is made.
Bella was in bad shape but so friendly. I just knew I could bring her back with some TLC.
I was looking for a buddy for my first Cockatiel and none of them really stood out. As I was walking towards the door I heard a very strident call from one of them.when I turned around there was this one Tiel that had managed to stick his head between the bars and was clearly telling me “don’t leave without me”.

I know where your coming from. I think just about everyone on this form does.
It’s what makes this form great. People who really get it.

Re: I went to my local pet store

Its good to know that what happened to me is not my mind playing tricks on me. Non bird people don't get it. Nice to see that I'm not out of my mind with a Parrot picking me out. I really look forward to getting closer to Bill, and I see it everyday. I was putting my hand on his back, all the way down to his tail. His trust in me gets greater everyday.
