I just got baby blue fronted Amazon, still feeding him by hand, doesn't know how to eat alone, when I put seeds in the packet,

Comes on hand but still has some fears, doesn't allow me to put my hand on his head.

Need your opinion about the the bird" Oz", size, colour and everything

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Getting a bird that is not old enough to feed itself is not a very populair of wise way to do things -- it is really bad for the parrot.

Did you try give him softer things to eat?
Soaked pellets (mushy) , fruit (only little bts) and vegetables (chopped up fine)
Seeds are difficult for them in the beginning and pellets are suppsed to be healthier anyway.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
2 observations from myself.

1. He shouldn't be with you if he is not weaned yet. Depending on where in the world you are it's actually illegal to sell unweaned animals so I honestly would call who you got him from and make them do THEIR JOB and wean the guy.

2. That cage you have is way way WAY WAY WAY too small, he barely has space to sit in one spot (which birds don't really do) and after you add some toys which he will need to stimulate his brain he's going to be completely squashed in. Also that opening top is dangerous and a disaster waiting to happen. A lot of birds get trapped in by the top doors and can seriously injure themselves or die. Plus those bars do not look strong and given enough desire and time those bars could be chewed through. To give you an idea this is on the smaller end of cages recommended for Amazonshttps://www.northernparrots.com/barcelona-play-top-parrot-cage-prod951065a/

He is a very pretty and happy looking bird but I would take a look at what I've said above to make sure he stays happy and healthy

Oh and as a little tip get rid of those dowel perches and get perches that are more like tree branches (you can pick up loads of good ones at pet stores or off Amazon) his feet will thank you!

Hi welcome. Gorgeous baby , tho I agree with what the other posters have said. In the picture with you pointing your finger you can see how scared the bird is. Pointing like that isn't the best approach if you are trying to pet the bird abd will lead to you getting bitten. You need perches of different types and sizes with several of the natural wood not dowel type perches. Perches are important for healthy feet and not having arthritis later. So yes a bigger cage length better than height, and plenty of different style size perches for him to have good feet. You want to wean by abundance , which means still doing the hand feeding ,while offering veggies, like cooked pumpkin or squashed, broccoli carrots ect , pellets some like said before can try moist, occasionally some scrambled eggs or boiled egg, cooked oatmeal. Lots of Amazon people here to guide you. Welcome read up.

Please make sure that you are always using a candy/cooking thermometer in the formula the entire time you're feeding your bird, and you are never feeding him any formula at all that is colder than 104 degrees F, and no hotter than 110 degrees F. Even one degree cooler and he will develop a potentially fatal yeast/fungal infection, slow crop, or crop stasis, and even one degree higher any you'll burn his crop and cause a very bad wound and infection...

We get people who are hand-feeding unweaned babies on here all the time, and they very often become horribly sick, stop eating, start vomiting, etc., and it's usually because they were not measuring the temperature of the formula at all, they only "warmed the formula up", and 99% of the time it's well under 104 degrees F and far too cold to feed the baby, and the baby develops a horrible fungal infection and often dies, especially if you're in a country without many Avian Vets. This is not at all optional...

He looks very healthy, so that's good, but he also looks a bit on the older side of being unweaned...Do you know how old he is? Are you keeping pellets and a seed-mix in his cage at all times? You never want to "force-wean" him, it needs to be totally up to him when a formula feeding is removed or is a smaller amount. However, you do want him to start "abundance weaning" himself, and that means you need to keep pellets and seed-mix in his cage at all times...It is a very small cage for your bird (from the photos anyway, sometimes photos are deceiving, but it looks way too small), so you probably want to look for a much larger cage for him as already mentioned.

If you start to experience any issues hand-feeding him at all, or if he appears to be at all sick with symptoms such as becoming lethargic and sleeping more than usual/not moving/not playing as much, if he starts keeping himself fluffed-up all the time, any vomiting or watery stools, or stools with bubbles in them, or if he suddenly stops eating, then you need to find an Avian Vet immediately, because this is unfortunately very, very common when you buy an unweaned baby bird...
