Re: weight...
Well, our Julio, a 21 year old (what a party), DNA male, floats just under 500g. He is a long time flier and very strong.
The hot three, as a group, have a fairly wide natural range from Central /Southern Mexico for the DYH Amazons. Where the BFA are found at the far Northern edge to the far southern central, South America (the largest range of the group). Size also varies widely. As an example, the Northern Blue Fronts tend to be smaller than their South Central brothers and sisters. Where DYH Amazons tend to be near the same size, but also have a sub-species that are much larger. The Yellow-Naped Amazon also have a fairly wide cross-section regarding body-size. When the three appear in the companion trade in North America, the BFA's are the most common of the three with Yellow-Napes in the center and DYH Amazons having the smallest population. All are falling in population in North America as with Large Parrot population in general. This driven by fewer breeders and lowering demand. Range: The smallest BFA I am aware is a small 395g. The heaviest Yellow-Nape I am aware of pounds a heavy 680g. The gals tend to be slightly larger than the guys.

Re: weight...
I will have to try to weigh my big boy Bingo.
It's been a while since I have done that and what I remember may be completely wrong. Do you know where I can get one of those little T stands that I could use on my scale? texsize

Re: weight...
My Sam is a BFA and will be 36 on February 12th. I have had him since he was 11 weeks old. I really do not know if he is a boy or a girl, but since he has never laid an egg, I think he may be a boy. He weighs 508 grams right now, down from 548 last year. We have been trying to keep him on a diet because he can get a little piggy!

Re: weight...
Ok so I just weighted Bingo my YNA. He comes in at 573 Grams
![]() From what I have read I think 550 is the top end for his species. Merlin my less than 1 year old Green cheek amazon comes in just under 300 grams. 296 Grams to be exact. ![]() Hope this helps you out.

Re: weight...
Check your scale and determine if it has a zeroing function. Most do! With this function most small perches will work as long as it fits on it. Big goal is to keep the perch as low as possible. Check the big box pet stores. They may have a triangle looking perch that has three different perch sizes. It is the most common perch used with scales as you can select the perch size that is best for your Parrot and have the other two perches that provide a solid foundation.

Re: weight...
![]() ![]() Jim He really is a large bird. One day I need to try to take a photo of him next to a ruler or something that would give a good scale to show just how big he is. There are different … I guess the proper term would be sub-species of YNA depending on where they originated from. I know the markings vary . I think size may vary also. I am not saying he's not overweight (maybe he has big bones ![]() Yes my scale has the tare feature I just never saw a small T stand that would work.

Re: weight...
I just plop Sammy right on the scale plate. He will sit there and try to chew the numbers. Then, I disinfect the plate. Never know what is on those huge parrot feet!
