Hubby recently got vision insurance through his job and itā€™s been 6-7 years since I last got a eye exam or new glasses, which I do have to wear all the time (though I donā€™t think my prescription has actually changed since I was in my late teens). Anywho, I currently have ā€˜designerā€™ frames and the frames in the insurance coverage budget are for brands Iā€™ve never heard of (that or pay extra for designer, which I donā€™t particularly want to do).

So I was trying to decide if I should just have new lenses put in my old frames or get new ones that arenā€™t as high quality. I decided to really examine my frames and discovered some very unusual marks on one side on the temple piece. I couldnā€™t fathom what they were. Iā€™m pretty careful with my glasses. These were 3 long shallow gouges, look like miniature demon claw marks from a horror movie. Then it hit me- *looks like mini-demon claw marks*.... now what in my home could make something like that, I wonder:16::33::20: Yup, it is the shoulder a certain :green: sometimes sits upon and while he doesnā€™t go after my glasses per se, if heā€™s very eager to get down he will grab my glasses to let me know he wants down (not in a break them way just grabbing to get my attention). So ya, I have beak marks on the side of my glasses lol. Thinking Iā€™ll get the new frames and designate these the ā€œparrot glassesā€ from now on:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Could be worse. Salty grabs me at the bridge of the nose between the eyes and gives a little squeeze to let me know it's time to go back on his boing. Gl;asses can be replaced- noses not so much! I'm glad Kiwi allows you to wear glasses, Salty hates mine.

All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I got bit on the lip yesterday (or the day before that; not keeping score here) because Sunny discouvered (once again) that my glasses are not part of my face.
She keeps removing them and after that freaks out about my *naked* face, and freaks even more when I put them back on...

(plze darling, *do* make up your mind!)

Good thing I just happened to have a frame with titanium parts (I love my glasses and just replace the see-through parts when needed, every few years or so) or they would have been broken ages ago.
(She is NOT a Gentle Giant about them!).
Oldy but goody this pair of specs ;)

The greys already stripped/chewed off the rubbery things that go over the ears, so the only part that could be fun to chew (apart from my face?) are the little rubbery parts that sit on my nose.

Kiwi grabs my husbands nose to get his attention lol. Sometimes heā€™ll go for mine too. Thankfully, I think he realizes our ā€œbeaksā€ are very sensitive compared to his:D

Kiwi also hates me with no glasses. I suddenly become an evil devil woman or something and must be attacked (that or he knows Iā€™m pretty much blind and senses my weakness).

Julio pretty much doesn't care whether we have our glasses on or not. However, glasses setting on a flat surface, especially if there is landing room must be investigated and tested for structural strength.
It just must be a Parrot thing.

No glasses... yet. Need them but no time. SassyByrd had to adjust to my Beanies With hubby on IVs around the clock, Iā€™ve had zero time to get my hair done.A true disaster. So Iā€™ve resorted to beanies. All the time. SassyByrd freaked out big time. After a few days she adjusted. Then I had the *nerve* to change beanie colors. I guess I didnā€™t do through the proper SassyByrd approval channels. The change in colors resulted in more drama than the original *new* beanie. Now she could care less what contraption I attach to my head. They all have SassyByrds stamp of approval. These monsters are so darn opinionated. At least mine is. Is opinionated normal for most Amazons?

Iā€™ve worn glasses since I was in 2nd grade and am as blind as a bat without them (one eye is 20/200 and the other 20/400 so without them the world is blurry and distorted) so Kiwi has always seen me with glasses. He has no opinion on what frames I wear nor if Iā€™m wearing regular glasses or sunglasses. Iā€™m simply required to have some kind of eyewear on at ALL times:22::cool:

And yes, Amazonā€™s are definitely an opinionated bunch. They have many rules and regulations for us humans and whether or not we know the law exists, should we dare break it, punishment will be swift and possibly bloody:eek: Itā€™s best to always do as your amazon says!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
If your frames are 6 or 7 years old, may not be possible to formulate new lenses - aka planned obsolescence. Especially if you wish to wear current frames while waiting and swap lenses on arrival.

Kiwi has personalized your frames, so they are definitely a "keeper."

Indeed that MUST be the parrot thing.
Cytrynka marked my rubber-coated metal frames in a spot. Seems like the plastic frames are the way to go, as she's less interested about them than the soft, rubber-like coating.
But in regards to the new glasses, my experience says: go with the new one, and keep the old ones as spares. Even if they look sound, they are structurally fatigued. Quality frames tend to break for me after those 6-8 years, and I find it satisfying. Usually some internal parts like the telescopic springs are the first to go. All the tiny screws became loose, too, and need to be tightened on a regular basis.
Now, again - to my experience, the main difference between "designer" brands and standard brands are the... brand logo (and design, of course). Of course, not counting the cheap crap. Did you know that there's a single italian company which have a world-wide semi-monopoly on glass frames? Zillions of brands in their portfolio.

Absolutely fascinating about the glasses manufacturer. It explains why a pair of Versace glasses I saw at the mall that would not have been covered by my plan, I was able to find a near identical pair, minus the logo/branding, on the website the insurance wants you to get frames from:33::33::33:

https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...t23Op2Vt-goC9LJBQXng7zx7Tfw,cdl:1,prmr:1,cs:1

Iā€™d be surprised if they couldnā€™t put new lenses in, given they currently sell the exact same frames. Maybe it just wouldnā€™t be covered by insurance? Mine are Ray Bans and thick plastic. Iā€™ve noticed nothing wrong with them besides looking a bit beaked up... Perhaps some demon beak marks could be a new trend/design feature:p My mom actually buys frames for my dad at thrift stores and just takes them in to have the right prescriptions put in (my dad has a propensity to break and loose glasses frequently). Iā€™ve never heard of them not being able to do that. Maybe chain stores canā€™t?

There are consequences for every action and you chose to wear glasses:D Man, I can only imagine Kiwi trying to do that... broken glasses and a very pissed off birdie on the floor (and possibly claw marks on my face from as he fell).

LOL< love the pict! :)

Appie does this sometimes: flies over and lands on the glasses (even though they are officially rimless ones...)

-

Anyone can put new glasses in existing frames, but some shops do not want the bother...

(Mine have to be sent over to another town because they need a special machine for drilling the holes in the new glasses to attach the old frame, so we have to plan this and I'll be "out-of-eyes" for as short a time as possible)

My Sam loves to take the glasses off and chew them. Obviously, we cannot allow that. So now, we both wear contacts! What we won't do for our fids.
