...and flew!!!...not far...but still! Amy hangs out on his X perch Uncle David made for the kids while I'm doing stuff on the computer. Well tonight I put him on the perch and within SECONDS he freaks out and waves his arms frantically while making an ear piercing screech and flew from the perch to the desk! (maybe two feet at best..see picture) I was totally surprised and asked him whats up...you've been on that perch a million times. I got him to step up on my fingers to put him back on the perch and he turned around and ran up my arm to my shoulder, with this"look" on his face that I've never seen before  So I put him on the desk and looked at the perch..then I saw it! I have a lighted/magnifying head band ( see pic of that too) I wear when working on my drone ( hey,I'm old! those screws in those things are tiny!) So I removed it from the perch and put it on the floor and got Amy back on my fingers. He hesitantly stepped back onto the X perch but was still nervously looking around.
When I picked the headset up off the floor he yelled and waved his arms again and I immediately put it back on the floor and apologized.
I feel bad, freaking him out like that. He has always taken in new things easily. My bad for not thinking ahead :(

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
That is obviously a very scary amazon-eating magnifying light. Duh. Pure evil, that thing. :p

You never can tell what objects will frighten a parrot. So many things that seem harmless to us humans sometimes are seen as big threats to parrot life everywhere. For Ralph the QP, it was a quart basket of strawberries, for Scooter the CAG, a bright yellow whisk broom. Can't blame yourself for not knowing how Amy would react to your lighted headband.

Don’t feel bad. We never know what’s going to scare them. The other day, Bumble kept flying toward my head (her personal helicopter pad) but instead of landing, turning back and flying away. I kept looking around to see if I could spot what was spooking her. It took me ages, and I was extra confused because she kept doing it when I moved to a different part of the house. Eventually I realized it was my shirt (it was white-usually only turquoise shirts scare her [emoji23][emoji23]). As soon as I pulled on a hoodie, she was all over me, even snuggling me a little as if to make sure I was okay. Apparently those sparkly beads on the front were radioactive.

Wait, stop right there! You placed that pair of radioactive lighted/magnifying head band on his perch? Your lucky that he could fly a few feet. You would have suffered greatly had he not flown and saved himself from those killers.

Amy saved the day!!! Long live HRH!!!

What freaked ME out was the part of him actually catching some "air" under those arms  Maybe he's been bamboozling me all along and can actually fly but prefers..as my Dad used to call it..."shoe leather express"..being ME walking :p and him hitchin' a ride!

Jim, you should be ashamed of yourself! Putting those Amazon eating thingies where they could have gotten Amy, then making him save himself. Tsk tsk.

I wonder who was more scared, Amy of the visors or you of a live pterodactyl in the house?
