...this poor birb went thru hell today :( We just got home! The first words out of Doc Kristin's mouth were "hmmm...this is interesting" ( scares the beegeezus outta me when I hear that) First was just a visual look..then Amy got a light sedative, some sort of liquid in each of his noses ( Doc said like a valium) within minutes Amy had a good buzz going and was barely giving the doc a fight. The vet tech had him wrapped in a towel and restrained gently. The Doc then put a cream on the growth to numb it and inserted a needle to draw out this gel-like looking puss (thought I was gonna gag!) she did this a couple times and put the "stuff" on a slide then gently messaged the area to remove anything remaining. Next his nails got a good trim then blood was taken from a leg for bloodwork.

Sooooo..the doc said it looks like a cyst of some sort. Under the microscope she saw a lot of bacteria and gave me a bottle of Amoxacillin to be give twice a day for ten days. Its a rather large dose and I have no clue how to administer it. Certainly too much for a small piece of English muffin.
Doc said it could be caused by diet. Now I've been feeding Amy Bird Street Bistro I'm wondering if that may be causing this. Doc said more Vitamin A will help. She doesn't believe this to be cancerous but COULD be so the slide(s) are being sent to a pathologist.

Trying to wake Amy up was a huge scare to me. The doc administer meds to reverse the sedative and it took him a half hour or more to finally be able to stand and hold his head up. Even now he still is having a bit of trouble climbing but is much better.
So it'll be a week before I know for sure. Doc said the cyst will fill again, could take 6 months or more. Amy may need surgery at some point :52:
I'm gonna go cry now....

Poor Amy, poor Jim! Cysts don’t always refill though and hopefully Amy’s won’t!

Sounds like Amy and Julio have a link as he is also easily effected by such drugs. May want to put a note to yourself that Amy only needs about half to 2/3's of a 'normal' amount.

Also, good friend, never leave your CAV's office without a quick review of providing medication(s). Unless one is providing medications on an ongoing bases, it never hurts to review.
Call and ask regarding the process specific to medication. I ask every time, just in case something has changed, etc...

Ohhhh, so rough for both of you! So glad you got treatment! I hope you can come up with good idea for meds, you can always ask for different meds in smaller quantities. Vets can work with you on that.
I think this is not a super scary thing to go through, it's treatable, just one that's a little frustrating in the cyst things take time to cure.
Best wishes to you and your Amy!!! Big hugs!

Count your blessings Jim, the news could have been worse. Maybe you need a bourbon to help relax you. :) I dread the day when I have to figure out how to give Nike meds.

Good Luck!

'Boats I always double check about meds. He is to get 0.5ml of this stuff. I just gave the first dose on a small piece of bread and he chowed down. Back to his normal self, alert and mumbling Amazon stuff and climbing around in his house.
Tomorrow I go get almond butter, the doc kind of foo-foo'd peanut butter (too much fat and doesn't need it with his heart problem)

Sorry that Amy had to go through that. Hope that it will take care of the problem and Amy won't have to have a repeat preformance in a few months. Good that he's recovered from the anesthetic and is back to his usual self again. Hope you're recovering from the experience too.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Good grief Jim and Amy, what a whirlwind day. Amy is in the best two pair of hands; Doc Kristin and yours. And a chorus of well-wishers from the forum.

Might try room temp cooked oatmeal or other cereal, unsweetened applesauce as med delivery vehicle?

Don't forget those probiotics! I'm a big believer in them, after learning on the forums, and using them myself when Ta-dah had her health issues. Speedy recovery Amy!!!

Oh, poor boy. The English muffin seems good, and adding the almond butter on top of the muffin with the meds should be even better! He will love it and never know. Good luck and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Amazons ! Anything for attention, right? I am glad it was not a more serious prognosis.

Oh Jim I know all about how scary that sedative is! Remember when Bum had her annual check up and they gave something like that to her and she wasn’t back to normal until the next morning? It’s so hard on us parronts.

I’m glad Amy is back to himself and that the bread-med works. I would second the suggestion of cooked oatmeal as well-I can rely on Bum to scarf that up like age hasn’t been fed in weeks.
