The joy of an Amazon snuggled deep into one's shoulder is a truly great moment.
A true statement of Being Loved by an Amazon...

She's the biggest love bug ever, but only with me so far. She's not actively aggressive at all, but a little protective of her cage and of me. My daughter got a good bite early on, and now everyone else is kind of afraid/highly respectful of the beak. We just have people take it slow with her and it's all good. She makes it super clear, she's a Daddy's girl all the way. :-D

Thanks Jim. I've been truly blessed three times now with Patches, Tucker, and Baxter. My daughter keeps calling the bird whisperer lol. I just call myself lucky, and maintain it's not about me, and entirely these particular birds and their choices. It is an amazing feeling to really know they chose me.

Ms Baxter must have been very loved to behave as she does. I still can't imagine having a companion/child like her for 17 years, and then just dumping her at the refuge because you had a lifestyle change. How can people convince themselves that ripping her away from the only family she's ever known is better for her than keeping her with you and acclimating to different surroundings. (They sold their house and went to full time RV. Bought Baxter a smaller cage to bring her with them, then changed their mind and just dropped her off) Makes me sick, but in the end, I get to be owned by the sweetest Amazon on the planet!

I can't imagine how anyone could live with an Amazon for 17 years and just dump them when they become inconvenient. I would walk through fire for my Sam. We have been through many changes together, including the loss of my husband 16 years ago. I would NEVER even consider not taking him with me wherever I go. If he isn't welcome, I would pick another place.

However, you are the lucky recipient of their selfish behavior. How lucky Ms. Baxter is, and how lucky you are to have her! I hope you have many many years of napping ahead.

Thanks Anita! I feel the same way. She's happily snuggling and preening on my shoulder while I stand by the sunny kitchen window and peruse the forum. Part of my morning ritual to get the kids, dogs, and birds fed and ready for the day. Everyone gets a little individual time before I get myself ready for work.
