You know how certain moments become permanently burned into your heart and soul? The birth of a child, your exact whereabouts during a disaster, certain very special moments with a loved one? Three nights ago I had such a moment with SassyByrd! At odd times I find myself reflecting on it and find myself with watery eyes (in a good way) or I start giggling and can’t always stop.
It was about 9:30 pm and the birds were tucked in at the other side of the house. All of the lights were off and we were settling down in bed with the TV on low. All of a sudden we hear (in that very loud little girl/scary witch voice) “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”. It sounded like someone yelled it in my ear. I sat bolt upright in bed and gaped out our bedroom door. There, outlined in the light of the TV stood SassyByrd in all her glory. She once again restated her position (probably thinking we had once again gone daft when her question wasn’t immediately answered) “HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING, HUH?”. This time I was able to gather enough wits about me to give her highness an appropriate answer, explaining that WE were about to go to sleep BUT as she had obviously been left out and had braced the very dark house and the super scary hallway (she hates our hallway) that it only made sense to have a mommy & daddy cuddle session (in which SassyByrd played every card in the book to extend it as long as possible).
I’m really not sure exactly why this touched me so deeply but I am truly grateful. Definitely a memory to be guarded ferociously and brought out to relive often!
