He used to be my mother's bird till she got dementia. For years he was basically ignored and fed seeds and fruit that was previously frozen once a day. I saw one day he cage hadn't been cleaned in months and there was three inches of garbage in the bottom of his cage. He spent most of his time barbering. That was his last day there.

Placed him in front of the window in our living room with a view of the whole house and the world outside. Fed him fresh food twice a day with his only seeds being almonds in the shell. From then on my mission was to constantly annoy him. Every trip through the house always had a stop at his cage. The pictures above are of his garage cage where he's forced to watch me drink beer and play video games a couple hours a day. Then he's forced to go outside with me on my smoke breaks even though he still won't go near his harness.

Strange thing is I'm the only one that can pick him up but he won't talk to me. He'll talk his head off to the wife but will draw blood if she gets too close. I still don't want a bird and I know he only tolerates me, but at least now he's very pampered and healthy.

He's still a evil green chicken!

It is beyond my understanding why people like these as pets. It's like owning a cat with feathers. He torments our Great Dane by barking at her and bribes our Lab by dropping food. The Lab escorts him on his walks around the house.
Even though I feed him, talk to him, and scratch his head he still likes the dogs better.

I've only been able to trace him back 16 years and have no way of finding out how old he was when my my mother got him. My only consolation is knowing someone else is stuck with him when I die. Until then....welcome to the zoo.

You’ve done such wonderful work!! So amazing, very well done :)

It’s not THAT surprising. Talking is just vocalization same as screaming. It can sometime - but not always, it depends on the species and more particularly the individual, and most importantly what they’ve inadvertently been trained to do- be a sign of heightened anxiety, not happiness. If the wife makes him nervous, the talking would be the sign. It’s all about learning their verbal and nonverbal language.

How wonderful! You did a great job! I wish more people would step in when things have gone bad for a parrot. They are so intelligent and social.

You know you are in trouble now. This parrot loves you. You are the only one who is allowed to touch him. He spends most of his time with you. You are the chosen one. Congratulations. You are owned by a parrot.
