FUU 829 Will you guys help direct me I’m being lazy. My friend says is means he was wild caught and came through florida. I was just curious and wanted to see the information. Timneh didn’t have a band of any kind. Thank you very much i appreciate it.

If it’s an open band, it could be a quarantine band (I think import bands stopped in the early 90’s?). And then the F could indicate that he came in through Florida.

If it’s a closed band, then it’s likely a breeder band - and that list provided above is the best one that I’ve found.

it is an open band. He’s amazingly friendly then for a wild caught parrot.

what do you think the numbers mean the . Is the first number still his identification number? And the second his birth year? Would his capture year or birth year be 2009?

so looking for open bands I found that Perry’s numbers and letters would indicate that he came into the states prior to 92. So my boy might be a bit older than I was thinking.

If it is an import band, then the numbers are just a number that was assigned in the quarantine station. They would likely not have any idea precisely when a wild-caught hatched so I would guess that they are not meaningful in that way. I know that open bands were also used for a few other purposes - I don’t think it guarantees that he is wild-caught, just means it was applied after he was too old for a closed band. Parrot leg bands are one of the most confusing things that I have ever looked into....no central system, no single purpose for them, no uniform meaning to them or requirement to register them anywhere :)

and the only hold the information for 4 years so after that..... Perry’s a good boy. Not sure about his age though. I was thinking the last two numbers indicated the year of his capture or hatch date.

If your bird has a leg band with three letters (the first one being F, C, O, M, I, L, or N), followed by three numbers, it was undoubtedly imported into one of the above listed States prior to 1992.

The USDA maintains leg band information on psittacines held in federal quarantine for up to 4 years. The only information these records can provide is the year the bird was imported into the United States, we are not able to trace ownership.

We are in the same boat with Kirby, he also has a leg band formatted in a similar way with the first letter being F. Florida import buddies! :)

thats funny. I found this also.
The second letter identifies the importer and his or her facility. Many large-scale importers used more than one facility and more than one code.

The third letter is part of the bird’s individual ID code, which includes the three numbers. This arrangement allows for 26,000 combinations before a station repeats a code.
