Hello, I will be bringing home my BF Amazon in a few weeks. He is 9 weeks and the breeder is trying to wean him but he's not interested in eating pellets just yet. I know it takes 12-14 weeks for them to get weaned fully. The breeder has a store and this is where he is. I guess it's normal for them to bond with the person that feed them. I go see him on the weekends and when I get him out of the cage and interact with him and play he's all good until he see's the woman that feeds him and then he wants her and not me. When I get him home what do I need to do to bond with him? Seems like this is probably a normal thing with all babies that leave the breeder, they have to form another bond with a new person. I"m not use to a big bird like this, I just have a quaker and Ringneck. I'm trying to get all the info I can before I bring him home. Also, I think this girl that feeds him seems to really like him more than other birds in the store, she will make little statments when talking to him like " wish I could take you home"...lol trying not to be jealous..lol. she is an employee of the breeder and does all the feeding. I guess I shouldn't be concerned but I know these Amazons seem so much smarter than what I am use to!! lol Anyway, i'm excited and nervous at the same time! I might needs lots of words of wisdom from you all! Here is his pic...his name is Finley.View attachment 23260

Congratulations. Love Finley and what a great name. I wouldn’t worry about him bonding with you once home, you will be the bringer of the good stuff. I am interested in the replies. I just got a baby Nanday Conure and realize I know none of the specifics of raising a baby bird.

I brought my Sam, the BFA home at 11 weeks old. He was at the breeder and living with a bunch of baby BFA's. When he came home, he still needed some feedings, so I took over from the breeder. He bonded to me during those times, and I have now had him for almost 37 years. When they are babies, they are very impressionable, so you will have an easy time becoming his person. Keep close to him and play with him a lot. Introduce new foods slowly and hold him a lot. You will be rewarded with the best experience! My Sam is a big clown, loves everything and is so spoiled! I wouldn't trade any of it for anything
