I've had Finley my BF Amazon for a month now!! He had adjusted well. We have a routine set. He gets a bit anxious at bedtime. I thought he would not be so anxious by now since he has adjusted so well to everything else. He goes to bed same time every night, gets 11 - 12 hours of sleep in a dark room. I keep a nightlight on and I only cover part of the cage. He doesn't like it completely covered. He just seems nervous or anxious and he flaps his wings which seem to be in protest. He is better than he was but still doesnt like bedtime. Is it that some birds just don't like bedtime?? My quaker and IRN scream to go to bed, they love bedtime. I just want him to be comfortable. He's sleepy before I put him to bed so I know he is ready.

Finley may just be the 'party animal' type. Does Finley go to bed at the same time as the other parrots? Maybe shifting his to a later time( same length, just later) might fool him.

My daughter was the same when she was a baby into well past 5 yrs old. Never wanted to hit the sack, afraid she was gonna miss something.

You are going to like this article! It talks about pattering to music at bedtime, and feeding by hand something warm as a comfort at bedtime. Hope it helps. Parrots know they are at their most at risk as they roost at night, and in nature they would never be alone at night. It's also a time a stressed bird will show it's stress.

Yes he goes to bed at the same time. I thought about keeping him up later but they are all in the same room and it's my office so when I clock in for work at 7:30 they all get up then. I thought about maybe keeping his cage out in the living room but I get up at 5:00 and don't want to wake him. I could still try it and try to put him in the room quietly to not wake the other two birds.
