I have ordered this cage for Kevin the Amazon, its so frustrating really i wanted one with play area on top and a drop down top door but never mind , hopefully he will like it or if he doesn't i shall put him outside with the ducks lol:green:
Why is it after you have chosen something you notice the door isn't very big

I'm very sorry that I'm late addressing your Thread. Plus, I see that it has been missed by others as well.

You're not going to like my review of the cage you ordered. IMHO, when it arrives, return it!!!

- The style of the top has been seen to trap Parrots commonly serious injuring them or worst, killing them as the opening fails and catches the Parrot.
- The door opening is far too small and will make your life a pain every time you attempt to clean the cage or install /replace anything and everything in it.

It's a dangerous design and should have been band years ago...

Again, sorry!

Forget top play areas for a cage. A cage is supposed to be a cage, and you don’t want any bird perching that far above your height.

I don’t know about the dangers the other poster indicated, but I have no reason at all to dispute that.

Also, those “seed catcher” trays on all four sides are worthless.

Not only will you walk and bump into them, they collect more crap than without them. You’re better off letting the waste hit the floor and sweeping it up. Otherwise, they’re collection areas for bacteria.

A lot of cages have them, like mine, but we don’t install them and just throw them out.

2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
Use stainless steel wire ties and wire tie the top part close. That design is poor and birds can remove the perch that hold the door open and door slams on them injuring them.

I never use the seed catchers that come with cages. It better just to sweep, or vacuum the mess up. Those seed traps tend to be a pain to have to remove to clean daily and if you don't they trap in a lot of stuff, which is what they are design to do. The issue is that old food and other waste can cause bacteria issues making bird sick if they get to it.

Once again, sorry regarding the cage...

That said, we have been buying (in USA) from birdcages4leess.com for years. The cage we use exclusively is their :

Lani Kai Lodge Playtop Large Bird Cage
Size: 32"W x 22"D x 64"H
Price: $449.95, on-sale: $399.95

This cage can be found on their site by selecting cages recommended by Parrots. Select Amazon, near the bottom you will find listed the above cage.

Features that I have greatly enjoyed over the years;

- Full height front door!!! Until you experience this door style you will not appreciate the ease of entering and maintaining the interior of the cage.
- Large, stainless steel feeding cups. They are large enough to place smaller cups inside them to ease switching out different foods during the day...
- The slide in place Seed Catchers that like others, we simply remove and not use.
- The full function play top, which greatly expand the use of the cage as it provides additional feeding stations and flat area for Foot Toys. We use the upper feed station as storage for Foot Toys.
Let me clear a miss-conception regarding 'High Perches' and issues with dominance... The problem is not the 'High Perch,' it's not establishing a Solid Bond with your Parrot. When only good things happens when Humans are around, Parrots have no problem with such issues. The other point is, a lack of advance communication with one's Parrot that you will be requesting a Step-Up.
- Both upper and lower trays that catch everything not thrown. Most metric News Papers fit nicely and easily fold to remove the trash. We elect to not use the upper tray as it can be seen as keeping the cage area darker.
- The side doors for the feed cups stay closed!
- If your Amazon is a roamer, you will find that the cage floor to cage area bars are easy for your Amazon to climb up on to the cage.
- The powder coated surfaces are well coated and we have never had a problem with chipping.

I'm not sure whether this group sells international, but at least, you have an idea what to look for...

Yes, near everyone offers that open top cage... People keep ordering it...

Ooooh I HATE birdcage shopping, it’s SO depressing! I bought two brand new powder coated cages last year only to find that my tiny little lorikeet found probably the one flaw in the coating and in a flash she had removed a sizeable chunk of it! I freaked out and immediately went “top shelf” and bought two stainless steel cages for my guys. They are hideously expensive and not easy to find (only one retailer here sells them so it’s a case of “name your price”) But if you’re able to source a supplier in the UK they’re worth looking into, they’re generally well designed and constructed, easy to clean and, in theory at least, should not need replacing for a very long time.

Have a look at Prevue cages on Amazon. They come in loads of colours and sizes. If you see one you like keep an eye on it for a good few days. I got mine about ÂŁ300 cheaper than it was 1 day before and 3 days after I bought it! No idea why.

There are some issues with damage during shipping and a lot of the reviews mentioned this and having to get panels replaced, mine was damaged in 2 places, but only slightly and not in ways that affect use or safety.

I also had a problem with the bars rubbing my Alexandrine's beak and I've replaced 2 sides with perspex and put perspex inside most of the other sides....BUT I honestly really like the cage! For an Amazon I don't think you would have the bar issue at all. It's well made and had a play top, which I also think is really important - I don't think having a bird up high is an issue.

I personally really like the seed catcher trays on all 4 sides and find that they help a lot! I ordered a cage from Amazon that came with a play top but I did not use it because having a bird be dominant/on top of a cage is not something I wanted for my Lucy. I did however re-purpose the play top and just put it on a small table to allow an area for play that is not on top of the cage. Having boundaries of cage time and play time were important for me.

You can try going into a local pet store to see the types of cages and size that you may want and then I would recommend getting from Amazon. All the ones in the store seem double the price of online.

You can also have a look at this outfit who are based in Lancashire, they seem to have a fairly wide range of cages available...

Just be mindful that sometimes the birdie used to illustrate a cage is not always in exactly the right proportion size-wise, if you get my drift. The cage I got for my teeny tiny purple crowned lorikeet (think budgie sized) was illustrated containing a sun conure - there is NO WAY it's big enough for a sun!!

Good luck in your search!
