It looks like Bingo's sinus problem has come back.
Yesterday morning I noticed Bingo was breathing through his beak a little (no tail wagging).

Last winter he did not have the problem and I had hoped it had gone away for good. Guess not.
My local vet can't see him till Tuesday. I can't say I have much faith in my AVC but my next best choice locally is an exotics vet.

I could go to my normal vet and get a blood test.
I could request to have Bingos nasal passages to be flushed out.
I could go and let my AVC harp on how Bingo has the wrong kind of bacteria in his throat (this is his normal operating mode for him a regular one trick pony).

I could try a new AVC in Calabasas that sounds good. it's more than 60 miles from me according to Google.

This is something Bingo has been through before and I am as sure as I can be that it's not life threatening but I know Bingo doesn't feel well.

Frightening when they have nasal congestion. When I first got Salty, he started oozing from his nostrils and we freaked out. Very luckily we quickly found a great CAV, Dr Hoefer, who prescribed an antibiotic and showed us how to flush his nasal passages and administer the medicine. Honestly Wade, I would go the 60 miles, if your not happy with the current CAV you have. Its at least a second opinion. Wishing the best for Bingo!

Darn... he eats a diet with veggies, especially ones with vitamin A? Your house isn't to dry?
What antibiotics did he have before? Is he in an area with cooler trips, extra heat helps birds so very much
I'm a big fan of probiotic, I prefer yogurt with live acidophilus cultures and no artificial sweetners, but they do sell bird powder ones that you can sprinkle on food. I tried tgem but found a much better response from the yogurt.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I'm sorry to hear Bingo's dreaded nasal difficulties resumed. My amazon Sally had chronic sinus issues, never cleared by antibiotics or antifungals. Only solution was periodic nasal flushes by CAV. Hope this is not the case for Bingo, perhaps second opinion may be helpful?

So, I vastly upgraded our exterior and interior weather stations and the new technology provides far more Humidity information than the older unit. Point being, it projects interior 'relative humidity' based on outside humidity levels. This shows the lowest interior 'relative humidity' possible within the home. It is surprising just how low one's interior level 'can' be...

Warning Nerd Moment: The Relative Humidity within a home vary vastly dependent on location in the home and of course time of year. Example, Kitchens and bathing (shower) rooms tend to be higher than other areas of a home. Since the majority of Parrots tend not to be housed in those rooms, other than visits, they are going to see far less relative humidity levels and as a result, suffer from the effects of dry to overly-dry air.

Point being, its that time of year again in North America!

I just got our humidifier cleaned and re-filtered.
Not high tech but it works.
I want to get video of Bingo’s beak breathing to show wichever vet I end up going to.
He is perfectly normal (for a Yellow nape) the rest of the time.
Like taking your car in for an intermittent problem, hard to fix when you see nothing wrong.

I hear you! Intermittent problems are hard for anyone to diagnose. My mechanic is pretty good at figuring out what is wrong when i tell him t sounds like "bing, bing bing, whap, bing bing bing". It better than my wife, who once told him, when asked what's wrong "It was working fine until it stopped and then it didn't work anymore"

The thread got me wondering about humidity in the home, which I will post a separate thread on. Good Luck, Bingo!

Great idea to video his issue and show to the vet, especially with it being intermittent. Did you notice anything at all different the year he didn't have an issue? Maybe even the weather outside, like a harsh winter versus a mild winter? I know it's a hike, but I'd try the far away vet if you aren't happy with your current one.

Only thing I can think of is the sudden change in temperature this year.
Went from mid 80’s F. To mid 60’s in one day.

Spot warmers are great, especially when you experience major temperature changes.

FYI: Get the Humidity device up and running and make sure you have or get a digital Temp/Humidity device to keep track of what is happening in your home!

I used that exact type for my grey, ringneck, and then Little Bird, until she recently got out and chomped through the cord. All of the birds seemed to really enjoy them and would snuggle right up.

Interesting gizmo...may have to invest in two. When the Beebs is in my room he likes to get on the shelf were the tv cable receiver box is and snuggle up against it. I was wondering why until I felt the box and it gives off warmth.

The bird warmer is a partial success.

I tricked Bingo into going into the area of his cage where the heater was. I put his old buddy the stuffed and electronically animated budgie near the heater.
After that it was his attempt (successful at first) to bite the wire on the back side of the heater.
By the time that was fixed he must have noticed the nice warm feeling. He sat right next to it and groomed for 45 minutes or so.

Unfortunately Bingo did not choose to perch next to the heater an night.
His normal perching location overnight is like right in the middle of the cage so Bingo has to make the choice I can't move the heater to him.

Yeah, that was an issue for my IRN too. My grey chose to change her sleeping spot and sleep next to it. But my IRN slept on a swing in the middle of the cage. He just hung out around the heater during the day, especially for naps. I always covered his cage at night and hoped some of that warmth would stay in the cage overnight.

No sign of breathing problems yesterday or this morning.
I got this on order and should get here today. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HMLT6SM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_ob6ZFbYNCB46E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Bingo does seem to a bit more vocal(screaming) recently

That looks cool.

Curious to know where you put it, and how he reacts to it.

It is located at the back of the cage. Bingo does sometimes sit there but not allot.

I did not want to... force him to use it by placing it in a favorite spot. I may end up moving it to a more popular location, not sure yet.

Bingo takes well to new things in his cage. I was able to put it in his cage with him still in the cage within 15 minuets of unboxing it.
Biggest problem is Bingo is a pro at grabbing stuff outside of his cage.
He can stick his foot all the way out between the bars like 2 inches. I had to take extra effort to keep the wire out of reach.

My CAG would take 2 weeks before I could put it in her cage.

I am curious how you keep the wire out of reach? Little Bird has grabby toes too and does the same thing. I've used cardboard to block it off, but had to constantly replace it as she chewed through it.

The power cord is pulled tight strait away from the warmer and pinned in place by wedging wire between a cardboard box and the wall behind Bingo's cage.

I think the size of this warmer is too small for birds bigger than my Bingo. If I had a mac or Cockatoo I would want a larger size.

I plan to get more warmers next month, at least one more for Bella. Because she still plucks her feathers it would be nice to give her some extra heat. I don't think the twins (Luna and Merlin) need one (or two) because they have each other to cuddle up with.

Still thinking about my Cockatiels :yellow1:

That's a great idea, thank you. Yeah, there is a pretty big difference between the two sizes. I used the small from my IRN and the large for my grey.
