1) I put two of his presents loosely wrapped in the bottom of the cage. He didn’t go near them until I partially unwrapped, and then he had a ball.

2) We were up until a ridiculous hour Christmas Eve, like 3am, doing last minute gift-wrapping and other prep for our herd of 10 relatives coming Christmas Day afternoon.

3) He knows this crowd, including my 2-year-old grand niece. Putting male and female preferences aside, he more and more tolerates and accepts those males he otherwise wouldn’t care for. Nowadays, he’s comfortable with this entire loud, very animated rabble of Latinos...with Venezuelan Christmas music (called “Gaita”) blasting as well.

4) He loved the attention, but this poor guy was on overload. He was freaking exhausted, as I was, but he kept up his calm, friendly demeanor the entire time.

AT a time or two, I could see his suspicious, slightly nervous body language when someone interacted a little stupidly with him, and I jumped in to correct the offender.

5) I wish we could curse here, because I was so freaking proud of him. I’m not the spiritual type, but I felt so blessed, lucky, whatever...that Archie’s mine. Okay, maybe I have a LITTLE to do with his personality, but I’m being modest. He’s just too freaking cool.

6) When everyone left at about 11pm and all returned to quiet, he talked to me. He didn’t say anything coherent, just gibberish, but I could swear that by his sounds and tone, he meant to tell me:

“Thank God they left. I had a great time, but I’m really tired and need some rest!”

7) It was Archie’s first Christmas with us, and I can’t imagine future ones could get any better.
