That has been posted on Craigslist for a while now. It appears to be a Red Lored Amazon. The bird looks to be healthy from the photos, but when looking at the pictures of the cage, it looks deplorable. It seems they have been keeping him out doors. They are offering him with the cage, which in my opinion needs to be taken to the dump. The seller claims they can no longer care for the bird, which by looking at the cage I would strongly agree.

I'm sorely tempted to give this bird a home, but I have my heart set on an African Grey or a Macaw for my second bird.

Thats terrible, no toys, no interaction w/people. This bird needs someone. I bet he/she? would make a great pet. I think the red lored are quieter than other amazons & they are definitely not one of the "hot 3" as far as sexually maturity goes. I havent experienced this yet so I just dont know. Is it an older bird? They tend to be more settled. My red crowned amazon is a great talker & is totally in love w/me. Good luck.

this is a tough one...my only advice is to follow your heart. If you have your heart set on a Grey or macaw and get this little guy, you'll end up having 3 birds eventually. But if it feels right to give this one a new home, do it.

I agree to follow your heart. It seems to be a struggle between the brain and the heart when it comes to getting new birds or rescues.

someone told me this before and it goes along with following your heart, if your set on getting the bird you want then wait and get that one because if you get this bird yeah it will be nice but your still going to want a grey or macaw then your going to end up spending money on a bird you really dont ant and taking care of it and its mess and eventully getting the bird you really want so thats going to be extra work. it is such a cute bird and someone will deff adopt it heck if it was where i was i would get her lol so stick to your guns is what i say =) i hope i helped some

Maybe you would have an easier time convincing your wife to get this one? You would be giving it a much better life than what it has now! :)

I don't know. I guess if it were me, I would probably get the bird, and hope to find it a better home. At least get it out of where it is at. Poor thing.

Well, I called the owner of the bird, who I thought was going to be an elderly lady or man. But if fact, she sounded like she was in her early to mid-30's. She verified that the bird was kept outside and that it has been left in it's cage since her husband had left. She says it's between 1 1/2 & 2 years old, which I think rings true since the horn color on the beak isn't really pronounced yet. I asked if it was hand tame and just I suspected, it's been some what desocialized and probably for a good 6 months or better.

She claims that eventhough she never handles the bird, that is someone spent a little time that they could bring it back to being tame, which I'm sure is true. She said she was asking $300.00 for the bird and the cage. I promptly told her that the cage would have to be taken to the dump was full of rust, which is evident in the pictures. I also told her that rust was deadly to birds. So she told me the cage was FREE and I could do with it what I wanted. I called a few folks local to me, who might be interested in resceuing the bird. I hope so, if not then I might have to take the plunge.

I did some checking and it seems this bird has been listed several times without being adaopted ot bought.

Mike,

I have my heart set on a Scarlet Macaw, I got a B&G. I wanted a Moluccan Cockatoo but rescued poor Dixie a Lesser Sulphur Crested. Then I wanted to try to get a Moluccans again, I got a pair of Soloman Island Eclectus. Am I regretting my decision? Absolutely not! We think these are the babies that was meant to be with us. Also I didn't want Parakeets when people kept trying to give them to me. Then I was shopping at the store for work, came out, there's 2 young keets on the ground chirping away. They were skin and bones starving to death. Took them home and had them ever since then I got them playmates too when they moved into the aviary. They were luck cause it was a warm winter month, but that very night i brought them home got down to 25, they wouldnt of made it. They can fly too but they let me pick them up. They huddle close to me for warmth and eat like no tomorrow once they saw food...lol....All my Cockatiels came from people begging me to take them cause they were allergic to them. Which I don't mind the tiels since I've always liked them plus I used to raise them as well.... so you see my flock have been unplanned! You will love them no matter what so the type really don't matter.

I guess she must have found a home for it, I tried the number a few days ago and got no answer and they pulled the ad.
