I've been afraid to say anything because I didn't want to jinx it.

Hannibal's going to his new home tomorrow. A lovely family with bird experience (Amazons) wanted a green wing and they're coming from Atlanta to get him.

I'm happy for him because they sound perfect, really. They've promised to keep in touch and sent me pics of their home. He'll have other birds to socialize with (after his quarantine) and children to grow up with

I'm sad for me because I think this is really it. After tomorrow there will be no more birdie in my life.

I'm also more than a little concerned about how we're going to get Hannibal from his cage to the travel carrier she's bringing for him. She seems fairly confident and is bringing heavy gloves to protect her hands but still. I'm like ... Oh boy, this is going to be an adventure!

Thats great! Don't worry about the carrier. :) Sometimes, you can just stick them right in. Again, sometimes. lol

I'm not leaving.

Someone's gotta help me find the right feathered companion for me. I need you guys.

I gave Hannibal's new Mommy-to-be the URL to this forum as well so I'm hoping she joins.

You know, I almost got a sun conure 6 months ago but I've read they're really nippy so I was put off by the idea.

Mine is a black cap, I'd go with a green cheek, black cap, yellow sided... one of those types of conures :) but then again, i don't really have any bird experience yet. Also, you know as well as anyone here that being bitten is inevitable, and a smaller beak is less to fear. They're really smart so they can be trained out of it, when my lil conure starts biting too hard i say "enough" and she stop! she's not even 2 months old yet! haha

The smaller beak is a lot less intimidating.

I'm kind of leaning towards another chattering lory if I could find a breeder. My ex, the one with all the parrots, had gotten me one for Christmas but he kept her when I left him. Honestly, that's probably what I should have done when I decided I wanted another parrot.

I think my experience with Harley, his blue and gold, was a one of a kind sort of thing. Although, Hannibal did make himself throw up on me today and he tried to step onto my hand when I was fixing his water bowl. Brat. He would wait until the day he's supposed to go to a new home.

Seriously though, it made me feel a lot better about his chances of settling in there. I just gotta get through this day. I think I cried for like 2 hours last night/this morning. I don't want to be all weepy when his new family arrives.

Awwe, it's ok, you love and care for him and you're doing the right thing :) It's bettwer for him to go to someone who will care for him like he needs, allowing you to learn more before getting a big bird :) So you got in over your head a little bit, it's ok, we all do at some point :) Just do your research like always :) I decided on a conure personally because
1. my boyfriend loves their colors
2. they're little parrots with big personality
3. they're super smart
4. I'm not afraid of them
5. they're just so darn cute
6. they're quiet parrots

those are just a few reasons :) i live in an apartment so i need a bird that doesn't require a ton of space and that isn't too loud. also, a bird that i can bond with and snuggle when i want is nice, but yet i want something that can entertain itself when i have homework to do :) I considered my life style before picking my companion

I've heard they were nippy but I don't see it being that crazy as I've been bitten by snakes(those thing hurt >.<!), lizards, and various dog/cats, so either I'm use to it by now or it'll just add to my list!
Reason I decided on a Sun was because I've read so much about how much they bond to their owners and they looks beautiful to me.

All else, maybe a too or small bird?

They're gonna be here in less than two hours.

Hannibal just flew (literally) into my arms. Boy needs to learn to use his breaks. haha Now he's got me bawling all over again. Why did he have to wait until today to love me?

Imma be ok though. This is the right thing.

AWH :( this makes me so sad :( but happy too. it's a bittersweet feeling isn't it? I think he can sense it, all animals can. It'll be okay :) He'll be happy and healthy and you can get back on your feet a little better and easier :) you really are doing a magnificent thing. very mature and responsible
