I really am not familar w/lorikeets, are they a noisy bird? You might try turning on music or a tv. Merlin likes native american flute music, he will listen for hours. He also loves to watch cartoons. Depends on why he is noisy, is he call for other birds, is he anxious?

Lories are noisy birds in general. Constant chatter. So it could just be that he's really happy and he wants you to know all about it.

I have tried turning the tv on he seems noisier when its on and when music is on too, its not the constant chattering that bothers me its the high pitched screeching he seems to do?

Oh yeah that would be rough.

Some people use parrot training CDs that repeat phrases over and over, teaching the bird to talk. Maybe if he knew other sounds to make he'd do that instead of screeching. A lot of people have been posting about that though over in the conure forum. You might try some of the suggestions in those threads.

Try putting him in TIME OUT. If he gets too noisy, cover his cage with a sheet. I have what I call a time out sheet for my Senegal when she wants to be too roudy. I only do it for like 10-15 minutes at a time. When she quiets down, I remove the sheet. It actually hurts me more than it bothers her.

Ignore the screeching and praise any other 'pleasant' noises he makes, that'll reinforce the nicer noises and he'll more likely use those to grab your attention and stuff. :)
