Hi, I am babysitting a Blue and Gold Macaw and today it did something weird! Cesare put his head way down and butt up in the air and started groaning etc. making lots of noise, with a red swollen vent...EXACTLY like my cat when in heat. Does that mean Ceasare is really a Ceasarina? His owner told me that he does not actually know the gender of the bird.

Any thoughts? THanks!

Ville a double yellow head Amazon
Not sure if I understand. From what I can read it is a normal behavior if I compera with my amazon and not related to a gender

I think it is a happy parrot enjoying life

I hope it is not trying to lay an egg. I wonder if it is egg bound. I would call an avain vet & tell them this. Or call your friend & see if they want to call an avian vet If the vent is red & swollen that is not a normal status for a macaw.

Thanks! I posted and then got called in to do 2 double shifts at work, ick!

The bird has not done it again so maybe it was just a weird thing, I don't know. The bird has other problems anyway, plucked feathers and attacks women and childrean...great for me, ugh. It LOVES my boyfriend and I am stuck cleaning up and feeding, humph.

I don't think the owner EVER takes this bird to a vet...I will tell him anyway.

Thanks again!

My cockatiel would do this exact behavior and then start laying eggs a few days later. I'm think HE is a SHE. :p
