I recently acquired a female Indian Ringneck who was found at a miniature golf course having escaped her owner. I have no idea what her previous owner was like but the bird is neurotic. She has bonded to me and kets me pet her, presenting as most ringnecks do, but in her cage, she runs her beak along the bars causing bald spots on her head and paces back and forth a lot. I love her dearly and keep her in a lovely sunlit indoor aviary with my other birds. How can I cure her of this behavior?

This bird has owners, who are missing her very much... Have you called the vets in your area... They are normally the first port of call for a missing bird...

Please try to find her owners...

Absolutely please find her home so she can go back there. She must be so frightened and missing her flock.

Yes, please try to find her owners. If they never turn up (which can happen; I obtained a dog that way), then please give her her own cage. She is probably very scared of the other birds in the aviary.

The local animal shelter trid to find her owners, even placed an ad in the paper. No luck, so they called me and I adopted her. Her behavior is bizarre and when I got her, she already had a scab on her head from previous rubbing on cage bars. She does not know what a toy is, I have given her several. And she appears to favor fast food - which I do not give her!
