thank you, but i find the boiling the egg to prevent hatching a little hard to comprehend, but i have often wondered about getting a male for the nut

I was thinking I shouldn't kiss Merlin anymore, or at least right now. I thought it might be prompting her regurgitation behaviors with me. It's hard not to, but I won't. I've also learned I need to pretty much ignore her in the evenings or she immediately starts making us a nest, thinking I'm going to climb into her cage and set up house with her, and spend the night. I only ever pet her face and head, but she can get hormonal with me anyway.

Interesting article. Thanks. It reinforces my views on mirrors, as we recently went through with someone here.

I know. I don't want to breed birds, but I don't think I could kill their eggs either. So my birds won't be getting mates. It's really too bad there isn't some feasible way to have them spayed/neutered.

I was thinking along the same lines..why allow them to do the natural thing and create life if you're just going to kill it. ><

Most people when they get a bird they think their first bird is lonely so they get a second bird & usually the opposite sex, how ever they don't take into consideration that maybe the two will bond, mate & lay eggs. Some of these owners continue to throw the eggs because they don't want to be bothered with the offspring. So the next best thing is to either coddle (shake) or boil the eggs, it would be best to do this as soon as the egg is laid. It really is no different to having a few chooks & a rooster. We keep some eggs so the hen can incubate to hatch into chickens & the rest we cook for breakfast.

Might I add that in some cultures they actually enjoy eating parrot eggs as well. Sad but true.

I have been trying to educate people on the very things written in that article but a lot falls on deaf ears.

That is very true. Anyone who raises chickens eats the eggs, and if there are roosters around they are fertilized. And I admit, I eat meat. I guess with our parrots we see the eggs like grandchildren rather than food. But many cultures eat dogs, cats and horses as well as all kinds of eggs. In the grand scheme of things, some animals eat other animals. It is nature and life. I don't run around my yard trying to stop the raccoons from taking eggs and baby birds out of nests.

WARNING: Adults Only! Don't read if squeamish!

In this Adults Only foreign language film by the very provocative film-maker, Fruit Chan, the main character, Mrs. Li, finds out Mr. Li has been eating fertilie chicken eggs with live embryos inside, in order to maintain his sexual vitality, which he indulges by having extra-marital affairs. What Mrs. Li does about this, is one of the most disturbing things featuring birds ever to be found on film. Even more disturbing themes abound. A very effective appetite-supressing film, for people who find themselves eating too much when going out for Yum Cha:

Dumplings (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
(Half a star was deducted for not including accurate measurements in the recipe demonstrations)
